It already is.

I know more people from the Gulf Coast at Ole Miss than I do from any other part of the state.

Things I like about Mississippi:
Oxford
Colour Revolt
Lazy Magnolia
the wimmens
Ole Miss
Some friends
the riverkings?
The blues.
Fried food

That's it. 20 or so years and that's my list.

You're kidding right? In what?

Oxford is the only town in the state that has everything. Art, Culture, Music, Food, Money, and forward thinking.

You don't know much about MS then. You only know your little myopic view of your little O-town. You can't even see your own superiority complex. I don't blame you. It's fostered at your school. This is what your own NJReb was posting about.

When the state of Mississippi had a vote to ban Gay Marriage, 29% of voters voted against it in Lafayette county.
That led the state.

And this means what? You're affleunt? cultured? An epicurean taste?

I grew up an Alabama fan. I went to college at UAB but have always been a BAMA fan.

I can remember Alabama football always being a huge part of our life even since I was a child. Saturday's during football season always revolved around Alabama and if they were on TV it was a big deal to get to watch the game.

We usually went to the games at legion field. I remember standing by the fence as a little boy and waiting for coach Bryant to come out of the tunnel. I thought he was some kind of god when I was a kid. He looked like a giant to me.

Those were some good times.

You are me. Could write the exact same thing about myself.

= poser

UAB has a football team. you are obligated to pull for them. perhaps you and some La Tech alums should get together.

My question is, do you pull for your team out of pride for the state they represent, or for the school? And did you actually attend the school in question?

I was raised an Auburn man, went to school and graduated from Auburn so I have and always will pull for Auburn with all of my heart. Your question about "state pride" is irrelevant in states like Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, S. Carolina.....well, just about every SEC state other than Louisiana and Arkansas.

While I understand a lot of people do pull for their team out of school pride, I've never been able to understand it myself. My state means more to me than any school ever could. However, to each his own, different strokes for different folks, etc.

I'm from Florida, but my whole family is from Louisiana, and I attend LSU. I'd have to say that should civil war break out, and Florida remained with the Union...I'd be torn.

So for convienience, let's go with school pride.

Most people in Louisiana are actually LSU fans, even those who went to ULM, ULL, LaTech, or wherever......or at least they are LSU fans "second" and would probably skip their own team's game in a week when LSU has a big game. Even some Tulane alum in Louisiana are LSU fans, hard as that is to believe.....

You're right, I don't know the entire state.
I can draw references from My experiences and the people that I know.
I'm from Southaven, a suburb of Memphis, and at about 45,000 people the fifth biggest city in the state. I have a lakehouse in rural Union county. Beautiful, hilly area, dry county, backwards people. The lakehouse in rural Union county have given me the opportunity to get to know New Albany and Tupelo fairly well.
New Albany has a cool downtown area, Tupelo reminds me of country Southaven with no Memphis. I've met good people from Tupelo. I've been through Batesville, Senetobia, and Holly springs. All of which are on the way to Oxford. All of which are North Mississippi Hell Holes. My Great Grandmother lives in Tallahatchee county in the delta. Nothing that isn't absolutely awful in the delta except maybe Ground zero in Clarksdale. I've been to the casinos in Tupelo. My Grandfather used to take me out into the Mississippi Gulf coast on his boat when I was a kid. I've driven through Jackson, West Point, Meridian, Hattiesburg, Grenada, ect. down to Destin. I've taken a train from Memphis to New Orleans. I've taken a train from New Orleans to Orlando. I've driven through Mississippi just about every way you could imagine. I've seen what there is to see. I've met a bunch of people from everywhere. And it just doesn't measure up to the other places I've been. I lived in Atlanta for a while.
I went to school in Memphis. Mississippi mostly sucks. The government statistics don't lie.

Well, that is generally true of college towns regardless of which state you are in, with the possible exception of College Station, Texas

Sorry Charlie, but the UofA does not represent the state of Alabama. According to your logic you should be rooting for Alabama State University. Who, FYI, went 4-7 and lost to Grambling and Southern.

If you're looking to live in a socially "progressive" area, perhaps you should reconsider your decision to settle in the Deep South.
