Starkel vs. Hicks

I keep seeing people say that Starkel was head and shoulders better than Hicks against Ole Miss. Hicks was pretty bad but Starkel really wasn’t much better. On the garbage td drive against the Ole Miss back ups, Starkel was 7/7 for 81 yards and a touchdown. Prior to that drive, he was 10/16 for 120 yards and led Arky to 0 points against an improving but still pretty bad Ole Miss defense. Hicks at least got a field goal against the starters, and would’ve had comparable stats if the young WR corps doesn’t drop a few easy passes.
This Arkansas team is probably worse than last year, which is saying a lot.

Most football games have 4 15 quarters.

Starkel has a better threat of stretching the field.
This gives our o-line a better chance of success.
The defense has to respect a down field passing threat.
It opens up the offense,I'm good with it.
Stack the line,get burned.

I don't really get your point. Starkel is much better than Hicks at the QB position.
Morris has shown to care more about integrity than playing the QB who puts him in the best position to win games.
Morris has kind of looked like moron thru 14 games

I think Starkel has a better arm. No doubt in that. He also began his first drive with an illegal formation penalty and then immediately had to call a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty.

I've watched both of their games. Starkle is a much better passer, but Hicks knew the offense better. Morris kept him in for as long as it took for Starkle to learn more.
Starkle is clearly better.

Starkel had another 40 yard TD that was called back due to an inelligible receiver downfield.

Sorry you don’t know football.
That was Starkel’s first meaningful action and our offense look much better when he was in, we even ran the ball better.
Most Hog fans are making the point it should have been Starkel all along.
And Ole Miss sucks bad too.

Is Starkel the second coming of Joe Ferguson? The Anointed One who shall lead us to the Promised Land?
Meh. Probably not. He is, however, more serviceable then poor Hicks. Hicks just couldn't complete passes, much less stretch the field vertically. Starkel can do those things, even if some of his passes are completed to the other team.
We run the RPO constantly... unfortunately for us it is a three part offense and we don't do any of those three parts particularly well. Our running game seems to be mostly harmless. When our passes are near the WRs they have a tendency to drop them. And I think I've seen our QBs keep the ball on the option twice all year.
With Starkel at least our WRs are down field when they drop the ball.

Conversely, I'm not sure how you can watch that game and not come away knowing without a doubt that Starkel is the better QB of the two. It's plain as day.

Spot on analysis
Hog posters are so starved for any good news that they're refusing to acknowledge what you said: Starkel looked better against the Ole Miss mop-up squad. He's not good.

I guess I missed the fact that Ole Miss beat us by 40 and had their mop up squad in the whole second half. Thanks for letting me know because all this time I thought that the ball actually going down field - even with miscues and toe stubbing along the way- was better than just stagnant.
As Sulli alluded to, we know Starkel (the Sparklesnake dammit) is no super hero but, if nothing else, at least the offense was more entertaining, more lively and most importantly had more potential, than with Hicks in there.
I just can’t (hand up stop sign gesture) at all with anyone who actually watched the game and didn’t see a big difference between the two.

You know I love you, Piggi. Thanks for not blasting me

Yes, long touchdown passes are easy to hit when the defense believes it’s a run play due to the rules of the game.

Lol you know your Low IQ back side of the D didn’t say “oh Burks has Gunter covered here, sell out on the run”. Don’t even play that shite.

Could not agree more. Yet they dominated Arky. It was like watching a slow, torturous death.
