Well you guys should be praying we don't go to 16 teams then because these rivalries will definitely be phased out if so.

It actualy makes them more possible, if you go to 4 divisions

Then maybe that's the answer

Let's go get Duke and UNC

(for basketball purposes)

In any case, I want Tennessee and Alabama to end up in the same division.

4 pods in a 16 game conference.

Bama
Auburn
Tenn
Ga

in one.

Play your 3 in division, then 2-2-2 rotation with the rest. You play everyone within 4 yrs.

10 teams, 9 conference games is still my ideal scenario.

I would love that. Still no Georgia-Florida, though, and I can't see that being approved. Not to mention the relative historical strength of the pod would probably mean it would get vetoed.

They dont even need to be in the same pod to make it possible.

If teh SEC went to 16 teams they could do pods that might preserve certain key rivalries... but it would obviously require the NCAA to sign off on the SEC doing a two round playoff to determine who wins the SEC each year.

I don't see that happening anytime soon now that the Big 12 and ACC both have agreements that make a program leaving their conferences a near impossibility... so I'm more in favor of the roommate switch proposal that's been bandied about more recently

Ultimately it should be the way the NCAA should go.

It would be the ideal precursor to a playoff. would solve a lot of debates and issues with how champions are determined without moving towards and NFL type model

No. Just would be a helluva division.

Could do something like this:

A
Bama
Ole Miss
Miss St
Lsu

B
Aggies
Arky
Mizzou
Vandy

C
Tenn
Kentucky
SC
Va Tech

D
Fla
Ga
Au
NC

Then play your 3 in division and a 1-1 rotation

1 permanent from each division and rotate 1 other from each division. 9 SEC game season and everyone is played within 6 yrs.

Question for those good at quick math. If Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, and Georgia did as some of you suggest how often would the 2 matchups come up on each team's schedule? In other words, how long would fans have to wait for Alabama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia?

8game SEC schedule = every third year
9game SEC schedule = every other year

(I think it's best to look at a 9-game schedule, because IMO it is inevitable that the SEC is going to a 9-game schedule within the next 5 or so years after the playoff gets started and the dust settles)

I'm sure some Bahama natives have actually heard that ice fishing exists. That wasn't my point. My point was that they are clueless about the experience of ice fishing the way LSU fans are clueless with experiencing a true rival. Not suprisingly the point flew over his head.

I stick to what I said, most don't even have electricity. They're completely off the grid.

yeah, except there's no good option to when it comes to adding teams for now. IMO we're not adding old dominion and ECU

Agreed. I hate we added teams. No disrespect to a&m or mizzou, it was hard enough adding the other two in 92'.

The truth is Bama and Auburn should've been a part of the East a long time ago. Vandy and Mizzou should be in the West. The Vandy-UT in-state rivalry was never important enough to preserve as a division rival despite the desires of Vandy and UT fans (who cares about it but us?) but when the first expansion happened UT like Bama got what it wanted. Yes, all of that unbalances the divisions but you're never going to get a perfect balance and the goal of every SEC school should be to step up its game and we've seen that happen.
