It would depend upon my program, if I could recruit top talent relatively easily I'd go with Saban. It would take him a bit but he'd build tons of talent at a program that would be hard to beat.
A program that has a tougher time recruiting I'd go with Spurrier. I think he's a better coach due to his offensive style and, in most cases, a better game day coach.
As far as legacies, Saban's building a resume for one of the best coaches ever if you look at MNCs and SECCs. As far as impact on a conference I think Spurrier's had a greater impact on a conference by far, again due to his offense.

It's not the same and you know it.
Again, your three biggest rivals have all had incredibly terrible head coaches for the last 4+ years. That is an indisputable fact. Add to the fact UF's coach had a mental breakdown and UGA wasn't on the schedule and you still have only 2 SEC titles in six years.

Thought experiment: if Saban had coached USC from 2009-present what would his record look like?
Also, some other points:
1) The SEC is much stronger now so while that makes it more difficult for Saban it also means he reaps the reward of winning the SEC, namely an automatic spot in the BCSNCG. Spurrier won 6 SEC championships but only played for the title twice, I believe. Hard to imagine winning 6 SEC titles these days and only having a shot at the nat'l twice.
2) Even though the SEC is stronger now, the national picture was much stronger under Spurrier. He had to play Miami and FSU each year, and went up against some of those powerhouse Nebraska and OU programs.
If you're asking who I want in one game w/ my life on the line I go w/ Spurrier. He is the stronger all around coach and gets the most out of his players. Saban is a better recruiter and has a more balanced "system" that is probably better long term for a program's health. I fear for USC after Spurrier leaves. If we had Saban, I think we'd be in stronger shape after he retired.

That still doesn't change the fact that 9 of the 12 SEC schools were mostly sub-par in football during the 1990s. Even then, the winner of the Florida-Tennessee game was generally the best team in the conference.

If you're referring to tennessee, auburn, and lsu...2 of those schools have won national championships with their terrible coaches.

Yes he did, and if one man is to blame for that, it is nick saban

I'm a homer and wouldn't want anyone other than Spurrier.

Spurrier or Saban
If you asked "who is the better coach in SEC history" well..that's a pretty great topic for discussion as both sides can make very strong claims over the other.
Aren't you forgetting someone?

what Spurrier is doing at South Carolina is more impressive than anything Saban has done given history of all programs involved.
With that said, it would be hard to turn Saban away if he ever wanted to coach at USC.

What Spurrier has done at South Carolina is nothing short of amazing but, since he got there in 2005, he has only been to the SEC Championship once.

I was addressing the strength of the league as a whole in each era, not anything particular to Alabama.
The Spurrier of the 1990s may have done just as well in today's league, but if you think the conference was stronger back then please share what you're smoking.

Its easy to say Saban but Spurrier is winning at fricking South Carolina.

True, but it was our first time ever making it.

I think what you mean to say is he has the ONLY SECCG appearance in school history. Looked at through that prism, he's a god there.

Is this even a serious question? Spurrier was the coach in the best football producing state in the united states and only won a title once. This also is in a time when Lsu, alabama, georgia, etc were no good. He's also in one of the best talent producing states in the country now. They're not even comparable. Who ever started this question needs his head examined. Saban has changed college football, spurrier is most famous for his whining and throwing his visor.

I'm not denying that. What he's done at South Carolina has been incredible, I'm just saying he has taken South Carolina to the same number of SEC Championship Game appearances as Mississippi State.

1-1 vs. UGA when they are on the schedule.

Well 2 so far and forgive me for not really giving a crap about a "national title" when you couldn't even win your own division within your conference.
