Not a big bb fan especially right now. UF has some serious talent and a big transfer dude.

Arkansas is always picked in the bottom half, and then finishes in the top half. When will the predictors learn?

Ole miss might be better but Sy was not considered the best juco prospect at the end of the year. He wasn’t even in the top 5

Why is UF getting so much love? A lot coming back next season?

Because we have a better team on paper than even Kentucky. Scottie Lewis is the best freshman in the league not named Anthony Edwards, Kerry Blackshear is pretty much sweeping pre-season POY predictions and is the first legit big we've had since Pat Young and immediately the best scoring post threat in the conference, Nembhard is a really good soph PG, and we also have Noah Locke, Keyontae Johnson, and Tre Mann.

The question you should be asking is, "For what reason is UK being ranked ahead of UF besides that they're UK?"

I think Ole Miss is being underrated a bit. They return Tyree, the top PG in the conference. Shuler, one of the better defenders in the league who should be around 12-15 ppg this year. Rising sophomores KJ Buffen and Blake Hinson. Finally will have a post presence with arguably the best juco prospect in Khadim Sy. Kermit also landed a pair of 4*'s who will add depth off the bench.

I think this team will prove to be better without Terence Davis and would go as far to say the ceiling could be as high as a 5 seed.

I like Ole Miss but I'd hesitate in saying you'll "finally have a post presence" with Sy. He's a good JUCO big prospect, but Bruce Stevens was just as good of a JUCO big prospect and wasn't a bad player for you guys at all, and JUCO bigs are notoriously hit-or-miss.

Is this true? This really doesn't seem like it's true.

I loved watching Ole Miss last year and Tyree is great but he's not better than Javonte

Literally true? No but Mike Anderson finished above the projected preseason Media standings ever year except his last one I believe. It wasn't by much but in general we have overachieved based on these projections in the last 5-10 years.

If Sy has his head on straight I'd say he's better than Stevens as a prospect. We wanted him really bad. He's a good 2" taller and can really be a more a presence on this level than Stevens.

Really, Arkansas should be better at hoops.

...I mean, if they're not going to be playing football anymore, they should at least play basketball.

Agreed. A step back would be a shock to me.

Im glad to see the league is much better all around. You see teams like Ole Miss and us that may be a lot better but not necessarily in the rankings. We lost Q who played at MSU for a decade. He hit more game winners than any bulldog I can remember. The wheels came off a bit last year when Nick was suspended but he will be back. Reggie Perry is a stud and we return almost everyone else. Lamar Peters left and he could win us some games and make us unbeatable. he could also lose us games big time. Big time talent with small time head.

Sports Illustrated : SEC Basketball Offseason Report

Summer Power Rankings
1. Kentucky
2. Florida
3. LSU
4. Auburn
5. Alabama
6. Mississippi St
7. Tennessee
8. Ole Miss
9. Georgia
10. Arkansas
11. South Carolina
12. Texas A&M
13. Missouri
14. Vanderbilt

I am convinced that these off season way too early polls are just random guesses after the first two or three spots. They throw darts at a piece of paper with names on them.

Then again, I`m not sure there's actually a way to do it any better this time of the year.

I dunno, as I get older I'm beginning to see the futility of early polls altogether. I wonder if this is a uniquely American college thing. In all of my travels, over the decades, I cannot recall anywhere else in the world - no other society does this.

I am beginning to believe that these polls speak to our competitive nature, as a society, and our need for collective validation.

I think it’s more about capitalism and some people starving for anything written about one of their passions.
