That kid didn’t buy that car there. Look at the dealer website. Not a car over 40 grand. Guy does have some pretty nice used cars though.

Yeah, I would imagine that's the owner of the dealerships car. Even I'm not dumb enough to think that's the car the kid drove off the lot.

However, it's a name and likeness issue where the dealership is "profiting" off a student athlete. Now we can go around about if that's fair or not, but at the current time, it's against the NCAA's rules.

Scar fans: "Clemson is a bunch of cheaters there's no way they can get those kind of recruits. It's all gonna come out one day they are funneling money through a church"

NCAA: "Scar sucks at football and sucks at cheating, here's one year probation."

There is not a chance in hell the owner of a used car lot has a brand new mclaren unless that is a side business.

They also had players fail the drug test that Deon Cain and a couple others were sent home from the national title game for but were allowed to play in the game.

Clemson could possibly have 3 of the last 4 natties if our players got the Nick Saban treatment.

I have no idea whose car that is, but its not Tee's car and it is not a car that he drives.

quote:

A Clemson spokesman said earlier this week that the university sent a cease and desist to the dealership and the dealership subsequently took down the post. The spokesman added that Higgins did not buy a car there and his eligibility would not be impacted, as he did not endorse or know the picture would be used to promote the business.

The car dealership owner clarified later in media reports and on the company Facebook page that Higgins did not purchase a car and only did a test drive with a vehicle.

Bunch of nonsense up in here.

Yeah the punishment on this is stupid, I'm guessing if anyone bothered to look a ton of schools have reported this same thing and didn't get near the punishment or anything at all. Ray Tanner is too fricking stupid to see that schools who cooperate get crushed, and schools that give the NCAA the finger walk free.

But at least we gave a bunch of clemson fans something to do with their day. Be honest, how long did it take you to run on over to the SEC message board once you saw the news?

It's amazing the difference in reporting and biases shown by ESPN/NCAA and their interest in protecting the cash cow.

The headline for Carolina reads 1 yr probation vs Clemson reports minor secondary violations for basically the same thing, except the spuds improperly contacted 221 recruits, boosters/school paid cash to players, and businesses used players for promotional opportunities (you think the kids did it for free??). As usualy, per department policy, names are blacked out, and things get quickly swept under the rug. Nothing to see here...move along...Amazing!

Clemson had 8 secondary violations in 2018-19
Aug 7, 2019

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Clemson's national championship football program was flagged for eight secondary NCAA violations during a yearlong period from July 2018 through this past June.

The school's athletic department released a summary of the infractions Wednesday.

None of the violations was considered major, and all issues about the penalties have been resolved, according to the school. In all, Clemson self-reported 14 violations in the year ending on June 30.

Names of athletes, coaches or staffers involved in the infractions were not in the summary provided to The Associated Press by Clemson. The month and day when the violation occurred was blacked out in the report.

The football violations reported by the school included a homeowner paying a player above the going rate for work around the home on three separate occasions. Two violations involved players on social media in a promotional capacity.

The other five infractions were committed by football staffers and included reimbursing an athlete for ground transportation expenses above the school's mileage rate. Others involved the school publicizing the signing of a football recruit before he had signed with the program. Another was for the football staff impermissibly mailing out a printed questionnaire to 221 prospects about life-skills programming before Sept. 1 of their junior years in high school.

Perhaps the strangest violation came when staffers wrongly used confetti as part of a photo shoot that took place on a student-athlete's official visit, the school said.

Clemson began fall camp last week and opens the season at home against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29.

Two of the remaining violations occurred in the men's basketball program, one for a player using his name to promote a company's sale of apparel via social media, according to the summary. The other was for the basketball staff providing images and likenesses of two players to an event company who used the images in a "commercial promotion,'' the school said.

The final four secondary violations were reported by volleyball, men's soccer and men's and women's tennis.

Clemson fans didn't post this thread. Clemson fans mostly hopped in here after all of the UofSC fans made this about Clemson.

You're making my point for me. If clemson fans sat on their own board or some ACC board and did nothing but post about Carolina for days at a time I would never know because I'm not the kind of sad sack that follows my rival around the internet.

I don’t know how you can look at the previous 7 pages of posts and say that Clemson fans are the ones obsessed with their rival.

I don’t come to this board to post about UofSC. A buddy of mine who is a big LSU fan hooked me on this site years ago. I come to watch people who love CFB as much as I do get irrationally psycho about winning and losing games. And some of us outsider fans like to set the record straight when we are getting trashed.

There are some troll UofSC fans on here and some good ones. LonnieUtah and SCLibertarian are at two totally different ends of the spectrum.

You guys are obsessed, probably not with South Carolina because who is aside from Gamecock fans? But with the SEC in general? Maybe. With wanting to be accepted? Most likely.

Do you see any Georgia Tech fans here? Florida State fans? Louisville? I name those teams because that completes the ACC/SEC rivalries.

All big time college players carry huge insurance policies to cover injury- so there’s that.

You're talking about the NCAA's Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Insurance Program

It has a very limited application: You have to be graded at a round 1 or 2 potential and are very expensive at about $8,000-$10,000 per million dollars worth of coverage. They can only run up to 24 months so only upperclassmen and a few sophomores would be eligible.

quote:

Student-athletes are eligible for this program if they have remaining athletics eligibility at NCAA institutions in the sports of intercollegiate football, men’s or women’s basketball, baseball, or men’s ice hockey and have demonstrated they have professional potential to be selected in the first two rounds of the upcoming National Football League or National Hockey League draft or the first round of the upcoming draft of the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball or Women’s National Basketball Association

So they aren't open to everybody and not something a car dealership is going to leverage against (because you don't know how much the policy will actually payout (it is a pro-rated process depending on the extent of the injury.)

Any other questions?
