Nah, you had the worst loss of the entire conference and your coach is too scared to play in championship games anyway. Automatic playoff forfeit IMO.

This is the classic eye test vs deserving conversation, winning a power 4 conference should mean something. The ACC and big 12 may be down but they are still a power 4 conference.
If you base it on the eye test might as well do away with conferences and conference championships. Every sport is based on most deserving, why should CFP be different?
Clemson won their conference, SC did not.
The only thing that should be fixed is there should be 10 conference games not only 8. That will give a more deserving conference champ.

Autobid is probably the only way SC will ever make playoffs if they couldn't get an at large in a year in which Bama and LSU were down, and they didn't have to play the top 3 SEC teams.
