You would rather Lamont Paris over one of our very own, BJ Mckie. We were already at the bottom of the barrel, could have at least gone with a SC GUY. Absolutely pathetic hire

I really love the University of South Carolina and have a similar coaching resume to BJ McKie. They should obviously interview me next. It blows my mind that people think BJ McKie was a potential coaching candidate. You don't fire Frank Martin to hire a former player with LIMITED assistant coaching experience

Don't feel bad. THe majortiy of our fans that know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about basketball wanted to hire Jonas Hayes, simply becauase he played here.
Nobody that follows the program or actually knows basketball wanted that.

It's honestly mind boggling. Most of the crowd wanting those type of hires contribute absolutely nothing to the basketball program either. As a season ticket holder for basketball it would be an absolute joke to hire BJ McKie because he played here or had a couple former players "endorse" him.

His time was clearly up but he only needed to be fired with a capable candidate to replace him. I'm not thrilled with Lamont Paris either, but you're clueless if you think BJ McKie was a good option. Neither was acceptable, but we have to deal with the hand we've been dealt. Ray Tanner is truly the biggest culprit in all of this. He's an idiot.

Exactly. Lamont Paris is a less than mediocre hire but he at least has some experience leading a program. BJ McKie was 11 years of ASSISSTANT coaching experience at Charleston Southern, East Tennessee State, and the last two years at Wake Forest. But hey some of our former players say he loves the university and he played here so he is definitely qualified. Idiots.

We interviewed him, but Ray Tanner screwed around trying to close Sean Miller which he clearly failed at. Furman coach got annoyed with waiting around when it became clear he wasn't the first choice.

the question that needs to be asked about BJ is "why wasn't he ever brought home as an assistant coach" ...?
he was still rooted in Cola the whole time he was here on Barclay's staff at CSU.
where was all the outrage then?
it's quite clear all the advantages McKie would provide in recruiting SC talent as USC's head coach would have still been an advantage with McKie as an assistant coach.
I'm relieved McKie didn't get the job - not for USC or me - but for BJ. these next 4 to 5 seasons are poised for failure for whoever was to be named coach. Frank Martin has spent the past 24 hours on the "Frank Martin Radio Tour" lamenting how every player on the current roster came to play for "Frank Martin" and not South Carolina. Lamont Paris has an absolute rebuild on his hands once the first name goes into the portal and the dominoes all fall.
until there is an overhaul over at the Rice Plantation on Heyward St, nothing changes for the trajectory of Gamecock men's basketball. the best thing Carolina could do is pay whatever it takes to entice Danny Morrison to take over the whole Ath Dept and and run the damn thing with competence he would provide.
