This is so uncharacteristic of Auburn University. I'm shocked to be honest.

Much like an undefeated season would be uncharacteristic of the LSU football program..... Minus the sarcasm?

The dreaded pushpin.

Are any of you Aubs pissed at AU over all the negative stuff the past couple years?

I ask beacuse my best freind (AU grad who usually defends them) is pissed about it. He's tired of all the negative stuff and thinks Auburn should do more to prevent it.

Yes but not at AU. They did NO wrong with Cam..and obviously this situation is on Varez. I am saddened by the sensationlistic malpractice media and the way they operate these days..and I am humoured by the tinfoil pumping interwebz posters on various sites.
The institution of AU is one thing I am not mad at.

I for one am tired of all the tinfoil responses to Auburn issues. It seems anything Auburn turns into a fever pitch on message boards (ATPB) and the media (Sportsbybrooks, Danny Sheridan, and Finebaum) when other schools get a couple quick articles and it is done. Ie- Suit Scandel at UA, Willie Lyles at Oregan, Seastrunk at TN, etc etc. That get's old.

Unless AU asked Ward to shave points, then I have no reason to be pissed at my school.

I'd love to hear how a school can prevent a player from shaving points.

The important information that needs to come out is...

Do we get points towards defending our Fulmer Cup for this?

In organized sports, point shaving is a type of match fixing where the perpetrators try to prevent a team from covering a published point spread. Unlike other forms of match fixing, sports betting invariably motivates point shaving. A point shaving scheme generally involves a sports gambler and one or more players of the sports team favored to win the game. In exchange for a bribe, the player or players agree to ensure that their team will not "cover the point spread". The gambler then wagers against that team.

I am sure I am missing something but is that reall somethign that the FBI needs to involve themselves with?

I don't think it's any different than insider trading.

AU has handled this all well, but these past 2 years have been awful

if this was any other school (i.e. bama), this would be a nonstory and everyone would cry foul of that one kid and not even link the university

There's probably millions of dollars wagered on every single sporting event. It's kind of a big deal.

This.

This has been a shite year or so PR wise, but AU has handled it as well as you can. It sucks the media has blown all this stuff so far out of proportion.

Yup.

And when there is a lot of money involved, the government will always ensure that they get a slice of the action.

The negative stuff has not been due to anything our University has done. So far it has been a father and MSU, and a BB player or two(?) who acted on their own as far as we can tell. As it has turned out our University has done the right thing in each instance.

With that said of course I am not happy with the negativity both those issues has generated.

Tell your friend to please take a real good look and ask himself what could AU have done differently to prevent it? A school cannot control the bad that happens on a campus, just as let's say a mayor cannot control everything going on in his city. In a free society bad things can happen due to the free choices we as citizens can make. AU acted swiftly when they heard of each allegation. That is all you can ask and expect really.
