It is so funny you should mention that. SC was ranked #1 in the preseason poll one time 50+ years ago, then lost to the VOLS in week 1 and dropped to #8. SC has not been ranked #1 since. SC did not even make the NCAA tournament that season (yes there were only 24 teams back then).
