bobby bowden had some of the greatest recruiting classes in the late 80's/early 90s, and went undefeated once ... he signed USA's top 2 offensive and defensive players one year ... he seemed to always lose a game every year with all that talent ...

So Saban has essentially just rolledthe ball on the field and won 3 natties in the last 5 years? You people are hilarious.

yes. yes, that's pretty much the gist of it. as a rant poster with too much bama in him, you should probably be concerned with the 3 years he hasn't won a natty(I counted this year also)

Saban is the best recruiter in the country because he has a brand to go behind it. Best talent wins. He'd be a joe at the Stanford's and TCU's of the world.

No, he's the best because of the combo:

1) Actual ability
2) Alabama
3) Media-driven hype and reputation

Generating hype is part of the deal. That said, are there coaches who may be better pure recruiters and better pure x and o coaches? Sure.

seeing as how he lost most everywhere else he has been when he didn't get the best players, one could say its a lot easier at bama than anyplace else. the brand is strong, saban just keeps it betwwen the lines and out the gutter

Yes, it's easier to win with the best players. But it's not always easy to get the best players.

6 of Saban's 7 full classes have been ranked #1 by Rivals.

Prior to Saban's arrival at Alabama their class rankings were as follows: 2007 - 10th, 2006 - 11th, 2005 - 18th, 2004 - 24th, 2003 - 49th, 2002 - 30th.

If it's so easy to bring in the #1 class to Alabama, why wasn't it being done before Saban got there?

The following are the class rankings for the school Saban was coaching prior to going to Alabama: 2002 - 15th, 2003 - 1st, 2004 - 2nd.

There appears to be a strong correlation between Nick Saban and bringing in highly ranked recruiting classes. It's NOT easy, and Saban does it well. Don't forget that recruiting is a part of coaching.

Nick Saban is in rarified air and some of you are marginalizing his coaching accumen as a coping mechanism. Every school in the SEC would fire their coach today if they could get Saban and that includes Auburn...

Needs to go on the STNSDB board

True

Luck plays a huge part in it too

Bama very easily could have had 2 more losses this year

FSU got unlucky with FG's a few years.

This Bama fan gets it. We have a couple that fall in this category in making threads.

Because we were on probation and had scholarship limitations.

Why is this even being argued? The combination of Sabans coaching ability and bringing in the top talent is why he is producing at a high level. All that doesn't make him the best at developing players. It puts him in pretty elite company however.

I doubt Saban could reproduce what he has accomplished at any other school in the SEC, but I agree with the intent of this post. Trying to marginalize Saban makes the posters look small.
