Lanning in Tuscaloosa

New reporter for local 13 News, also openly states that he used to work for Alabama and has a few sources still their. He then goes on to say that the players are aware of him on campus, and the players has been told an announcement will be made with in 72 hours. He all but said Lanning was the new HC.

Just admit the fact that Bama wasn’t as appealing of a job as you thought it would be when Saban left.

But Lanning was not, in fact, in Tuscaloosa. On Thursday, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports reported that Lanning was actually at home in Eugene watching a Jason Bourne movie with his family Wednesday

For his part, Kamerman addressed the error here with an on-air apology Thursday.

“Yesterday, we were part of those rumors, reporting that Lanning was in Alabama. That information was wrong. I take full responsibility for that. It wasn’t the KVAL sports team, it wasn’t the rest of the news department here, which is filled with ethical, strong journalists. That one was on me. I take it seriously, and I do want to apologize to our viewers and to my colleagues. We strive to be accurate in our reporting, and when we make an error in our reporting, as I did yesterday, we own up to it. Dan Lanning in Eugene has absolutely no egg on his face tonight, I wear the egg.”

Well we get to see your option, not choice…option play out on the field in 2025 & 2026. I’ve looked into the future FSU wins both games.

This pretty much is your Rich Rodriguez hire.

What would you call your moment when Ryan Williams took all that money to visit Auburn then sign with Alabama? Didn’t you make a few ban bets?

Who cares? Any coach that doesn't have a show cause or isn't coaching in a JV league due to buying hookers for recruits would turn down the barn. Yawn.

I think DeBoner is going to be a pretty good coach at Alabama (not Nick good though)

Not sure why this thread is still going.

We’ve been told for a couple months that DeBoer was our 5th or 6th choice, but now we see that there were only 2 coaches even considered.

Not sure why there’s an attempt to crow about this. Bama went and hired the guy they wanted within 48 hours of Saban stepping down. That’s pretty remarkable. Bama is a machine.

But let’s talk about the class he is actually recruiting right now, that’s currently ranked #26. Actually let’s take a look at prior recruiting classes under DeBoer.

Here is where Alabama is ranked by on3 today. Since Deboer is such a shitty recruiter, I really feel bad for the fans of the teams ranked below Alabama.

I don’t think that is true. But I do know it is good to see another thread about Alabama football. I was afraid with Saban retiring many of you would quit thinking about Alabama football every day. But that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.

Thank God Norvell said no - he is a loser. We got the best coach in the country and it’s not close. We will win multiple NCs in the next 4 years with Kalen

Deboer is a very good coach.

What Deboer has not proven is the ability to bring in recruits. He switches jobs too frequently to have proven that yet.

Perhaps he'll shine at it. But Oregon finished 3rd in the nation in recruiting under Lanning at OREGON. This is his second full class (his first finished 9th in the nation).

Deboer can obviously 'coach up' guys recruited by the prior coach. I think Bama will be very good the next couple of years because of that. But Washington was outside the top 25 recruiting with him at the helm. Given time, recruiting overtakes coaching nearly 100% of the time.

As Terry Bowden said, "You can take the X's and the O's. Give me the Jimmies and the Joes."

In the long run, a coach that can recruit like Lanning (or Smart, or Saban or Ryan Day) will bring in more success than a poor recruiting coach who is great at the coaching side of being a coach.

That's why I fear Lanning as an opposing coach at a top school (which Oregon isn't) more than anyone else. At a school like Alabama or Florida (or UGA) I can't see him ever being outside the top 5 in recruiting. Mostly top 3. That is going to bring success to any program.

I hope Lanning stays at Oregon a long time. He's no threat there.

We'll see how he does with recruiting. I have no idea how well he will do, but he went from being an unknown coach to being well known and having a good recruiting support system. If he can't recruit decently at Alabama, then he won't be able to do it anywhere.

I think this is likely the area having Saban around will help him in the most.

But I think you are wrong about Oregon. They are pretty well funded by Nike. They have been a top10 team in recruiting and on the field for quite a while, at least a decade and have made the playoffs.

No he wasn’t. DeBoer was not even on Saban’s list. They’re just lying. DeBoer was a panic hire. He’s got no resume and got a lucky win to get to the natty after playing a BS schedule. They did not want DeBoer, he was just the best they could get because the guys they wanted said no.

Can you just imagine how incredible this place is going to be this year after the Alabama/LSU football game? If LSU wins. If LSU loses this place won’t open back up for a long time I am guessing.

Has that ever happened? I know it happened at TideFans in 2011 after LSU won in Tuscaloosa. “No posts from LSU fans until further notice!!!111”

Y’all will not last the season.

Wow, you know a lot about sports message boards. It seems crazy that 2011 was 13 years ago. It also seems crazy that you didn’t register here until November 2023.

3rd. Lanning said hell no.

Even if this is true, why do you care? Alabama still ended up with a top 3 coach according to multiple experts, and Auburn still has a 6-7 coach that couldn’t pull out a win against a guy your fanbase called radio on a 4th and forever play call while rushing 2 players and using a spy, lol.
I’d worry about my own program instead of worrying about how many coaches used the Bama coaching vacancy to get a raise on their contracts. But that’s why your program is little brother
