It could be argued that Miami was in a better place franchise wise than New England was going into this season. Mac was the back up for three years.

Mac is in a much better situation than Tua. Compare the Pats franchise with the Dolphins.

Consider what Tua did with the offense he had in 2018-19 and what Mac did with the offense he had in 2020. Mac put up better numbers with an inferior product.

I still think Tua was the better talent. He's just had so many injuries that he's not the same guy we saw in 2018. He was incredible that year

You're right. One of them also played an all-SEC schedule, plus two blue bloods in the playoffs to end the season.

Tua was a much better college QB than Mac. Mac is a far superior NFL QB than Tua and it’s not even close. There have been lots of great college QB’s throughout history whose talents simply weren’t NFL quality. Mac will have a very long, successful career in the NFL. Tua will have a journeyman back-up type career.

You mean half of seven-win Ohio State.

Exactly right except his first injury was mid season that year. Well excluding the injury to the hand that spring before the season

Bama fans were calling Tua and 2019 Bama the best ever until LSU beat them. Bama’s 2019 team clearly had more talent than the 2020 version.

That's an exaggeration.

Tua Tagovailoa's best season was 2018. That year, he produced the following stats:

245-355 (69%) 3,966 yards 43 TDs 6 INTs (15 games)

Mac Jones only started one full season (2020). And in that season, he produced the following stats:

311-402 (77.4%) 4,500 yards 41 TDs 4 INTs (13 games)

And keep in mind that Tua was throwing to Jeudy, Ruggs, Waddle, and Smith in 2018 to go along with Josh Jacobs out of the backfield. Mac Jones was throwing to just Waddle and Smith in 2020 and Waddle was hurt halfway through the season.

Nick Saban obviously thought Tua was better.

Yep. A lot of Alabama fans like to ignore that part.

Still the mounting injuries took a severe toll.

Tua in 2019 was having a better year than Burrow before his injury. 2018 had better players, but a worse OC and scheme. Tua was much better than MAC, but never regained his original form.

Nick Saban isn't infallible. Look at Jalen Hurts and the 2017 football season. But players also develop over time. Mac Jones clearly developed into a better player.

I think Tua was better before the injuries took a toll but Mac is probably better now. To give Mac credit he worked very hard to improve and by all accounts he’s very studious too.

Tua probably had the edge in talent. Mac was all around better as a QB. But, it's very close. They were both great.

Also...it floors me that these three were on the same team at the same time. All of them were Heisman finalists and are now starting QBs in the NFL.
