Both have good sports teams outside of football - if that matters at all

Not hard to figure out aggy …. You have a thing called a current contract …. When teams get added they will add a portion of money for OU and Texas equal to what every other member gets …..

When the contract ends The sec will make more money with OU and Texas becuase of our brands . The sec could also request new money in this current contract . Worst case is we have to wait a few years for larger paydays . You also Leaving out a key amount of money from any future playoff expansion . More teams equal more dollar and we won’t know for sure if Texas or OU makes it but I can say More money is coming regardless just due the odds the sec gets 5-7 teams in a 12 team playoff .

Big 10 at its peak won’t make what the sec does they are averaging 1 bil a year for 16 teams …
There's a lot of banking on the future and what ifs in that post. In fact, you fail to account for the fact that adding OU and Texas probably DELAYED expansion of the CFP, and arguably, could end up costing existing SEC members money as a result.

Maybe some day it will all pay off, but I'm skeptical. If we could go back in time about 18 months, and just skip the OU and Texas addition to the SEC, I think the SEC, and college football as a whole, would be better off. People forget that sports is not like other businesses where your ultimate success usually results in driving some competitors out of business in order to increase market share. In sports, the competition is the product, so having less of it means you've got less to sell. This consolidation of college football into 2 conferences, with less than 40 schools, is diminishing college football, not expanding its reach. Although that may be profitable in the short term, that may ultimately come back to bite the schools pushing for the consolidation.

Texas and Texas A&M should never have been separated, and certainly never stopped playing annual games against each other.

The same can be said for OU/OK State and OU/TX.

The problem is, if the SEC passes on Texas and OU, and the Big 10 took them + USC and UCLA, the SEC is really on the back foot at that point.

Of course, neither scenario is probably “good” for college football, but who knows what the future holds? The traditional things that made CFB enjoyable have certainly been eroding over the past 15ish years or so.

Conference realignment 101

SEC expands for content

B1G expands for money

Based on realignment history since the B1G went after Notre Dame and got Penn State, the B1G has gotten all kinds of money yet has fallen behind in the NCAA Championships.

SEC is playing the long game and winning.

It was to prevent OU and Texas to the B1G. Them plus USC in the B1G would have been disastrous for the SEC.

But they do add significant value. Not right now in the middle of the TV contract, but it will add substantially more when the contract is up for re-negotion.

Maybe you hillbillies are just bad at negotiating contracts, as opposed up north where they're smarter and more educated. Good job, homos.

I don’t give a shite about money or what channel it’s on.

Adding Texas and or Oklahoma to LSU’s schedule is fricking awesome. If you can’t see the benefit there then go somewhere else and watch another conference. The crossover among LSU, A&M, UT, OU and Arkansas fans is huge. These teams all need to play yearly.

An early leak about the OU/UT move from a certain team's petty fanbase probably had a lot more to with scuttling the CFP expansion than the actual move itself. And it didn't just cost the SEC. It cost all of the major conferences. As things stand, it hurts the SEC less than everyone else because they are at the top of the football heap right now.
