When are sports news writers going to start running stories about them for playing terrible? When are DJ U and Spencer Rattler going to be held accountable by the media for their horrible play? There are many others as well. Where's the story about why Bryce Young didn't get the job done against Texas A&M or why Bo Nix was yanked for playing like garbage? These guys are Pros now and it's time to treat them as such.

They are amateur athletes who can be paid for the Name, Image, and Likeness.

This is why Bama remains on top. We Are Always On The Cutting Edge Of Anything college Football related. Nick has said many times that the fans are part of the team and play a big part of it as well. I actually woke up at 3 a.m. and jotted this note down so I would it remember when I woke up. Just doing my part. At Bama we're doing things at 6 a.m. that haven't even crossed LSU's mind until 10:30

Nothing "technical" about it. These boys are getting paid.

The purpose of my post is to stop rat poison. Maybe these guys need to hear some negative things about them for a change. I guarantee you Nick Saban would approve.

I think the olympics doing what they did years ago made the term amateur athlete mostly obsolete. Heck even college some years ago was letting football players play in the minor leagues of baseball while getting signing bonuses and a paycheck.

This was my first thought as well, but technically they are not being paid to play a sport, they are just allowed to make side money off their notoriety. Yes, much of it is arranged by the program, but not paid directly for services rendered.

Also I would like to add that reporters are typically assholes so it is coming, but there has long been an unwritten rule that you go easy on college kids because they are amateurs and not professionals and old habits are hard to break.

I'd assume an sports-writer is free to write what they wish, as long as their editor approves. And now, since we've finally got rid of an arbitrary rule, the players are free to go make money. Just as I, as an academic scholarship recipient decades ago, was also free to go seek after-school work ... and was also encouraged to use the name and contacts of that small scholarship foundation to do so.

I'm sure Mark Emmert sees every one of these dollars as a lost opportunity for the NCAA. And anything that makes Mark Emmert sad makes me happy.

True.

And being paid anything outside of room/board/tuition makes them an athlete paid outside the school, which if the definition of a professional athlete is someone who is paid, then yes, the can be considered professional athletes.

They have always been paid at least a little, now it's out in the open. And going to cause the product on the field to suffer.
