But, you have to admit the popularity that Notre Dame still has. I mean, they still have a massive name and possibly the largest following.

How has that translated to winning?

Meh list.

Texas is number 1 far and away. I'd put Florida at 2, OU 3, FSU 4, OSU 5 any combination of UGA, LSU, and Bama at 6 - 8. ND and Penn State to round out the top 10.

Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee at the top of the next 10.

1988 under Holtz. Last big win in the green jerseys I think.

Think they got lucky with a bad call against Miami, too.

Obviously it hasn't, but it has kept them in the national discussion longer than most programs in similar circumstances. With massive facility upgrades, a continued national recruiting base, and tremendous financial support, Notre Dame can still become a national player again. Bryan Kelly isn't than bad of a coach either.

If you can follow grammatic reference, the structure clearly refers to the author of the article, not the subject of the topic.

My whole point is that ND made a name for themselves long before most all of these teams. Yes, they've been down right awful as of late, but ND will always have more pull than a team like AU or TCU.

Again, I don't think this list is about which program is historically better.

If the question they are implying is "which program, if hiring a coach in 1958, is the better program for the coach to succeed" then your point is valid... Notre Dame by a parsec.

If the question they are implying is "which program, if hiring a coach in 2011, is the better program for the coach to succeed" then you are missing the point. It ain't Notre Dame (as has been proven for going on 15-20 years now).

I tried to make a list, but it's pretty difficult. I feel confident in putting Texas number 1,but that's about it.

Most new coaches aren't stepping into goldmines. The majority of them hope to step into a program with the amenities to help them succeed. Notre Dame has them.

I feel pretty good about

texas, florida, usc at the top

tOSU, OU just after

LSU, UGA, Bama, FSU lumped in after that

gets hard tho - there are a couple potentially awesome jobs in A&M and TCU people haven't been mentioning... in terms of potential those are top tier jobs

FSU is the second best job in FLorida. There's no way its the 4th best job in the country.

1. No way Ohio State and Oklahoma are better jobs than UF, bama, LSU, or UGa.

2. No way UGa is a better job than bama or LSU.

Absolutely!

OU is a top 3 Job hands down in the easiest conference of the BCS outside of the Big East. I personally do not like OU in any shape or form but I'm a realist.

Norman, OK is practically inside the state of Texas. It's the closest BCS school to the entire Dallas Metro and all of North Texas besides Texas.

OU is a huge Job it's a reason Bob Stoops will never leave for OSU or Florida. Why make a lateral move to a harder conference, you won't.

OU made a killing in the Big8 and doing the exact same thing in the Big12. To act like OU isn't a top 3 Job, is well, stupid.

5. Georgia
Want to know why Mark Richt is on the hot seat despite six seasons with at least 10 wins since 2001? Because Georgia has the resources to be in the national title hunt every season. The Bulldogs just finished a major football facility upgrade, and they play in one of the nation's iconic stadiums. They have plenty of money. In terms of recruit preference, the Bulldogs rule a state that cranks out 90-100 BCS AQ-conference signees each year. Theoretically, Georgia should have its pick of those players, but Bulldogs coaches can't always stop Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Florida State from cherry-picking some of the state's top recruits. Unlike Florida or Alabama, which must fight off in-state rivals, Georgia recruits on a different level than Georgia Tech. The situation is more comparable to Texas and Texas A&M, which is why Georgia fans had a right to be dismayed that the Bulldogs had to win last year's installment of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate just to pull even with the Yellow Jackets at 6-6 on the regular season. (Never mind the Liberty Bowl loss to Central Florida.) Put simply, this is a great job for Richt if he can return to his early 2000s dominance. If Richt can't, the right choice can come in and win big in Athens.

exactly what i have been saying so naturally it meets DGD approval. lol at all the people bitching
