Setting the record straight on Mizzou and the Big 10

When the Big 12 was falling apart, Mizzou fans didn’t want to go to the Big10. The only ones that wanted the Big 10 were the academia/lib types.
When the SEC was interested, it was practically unanimous that everyone wanted to go to the SEC.
Just throwing this out there. I don’t know where the narrative started that Mizzou fans were clamoring for the Big 10

Y’all have a wrestling team and the worst baseball team in conference history. That screams Big10

While Missouri has expressed interest in joining the Big Ten in the past, the Big Ten has never extended an invitation to Missouri. Missouri has actively pursued a move to the Big Ten, even with support from the Missouri governor. However, the Big Ten has repeatedly indicated it is content with its current membership and has not shown interest in adding Missouri. The Big Ten commissioner, Jim Delany, has stated that the conference is happy with 12 teams and is not looking to expand.
Missouri's desire for a Big Ten invitation stemmed from a preference for the conference over the SEC, which they ultimately joined. The Big Ten's geographic and cultural fit with Missouri was seen as a positive by some, according to ESPN. However, Missouri was not a priority for the Big Ten, and the conference prioritized adding Nebraska.
For example, in 2011, Missouri hoped to join the Big Ten, but the league chose Nebraska instead, according to ESPN. Despite Missouri's interest and the perceived fit with the conference, the Big Ten ultimately did not reciprocate that interest.

I believe Mizzou would be the Big 10 right now if Nebraska had been kicked out of the AAU a year earlier than they were.

Lived here all my life, went to school there, and have tons of family and friends that went there.
Just telling it like it is.

It’s been awhile so I may be wrong. I believe one of the sticking points was Big 10 only offered partial payments to new members. Missouri wasn’t inclined to pursue if other options were available.

Arkansas came here for security and Missouri did the same which is a good move. There is no worry of the conference desolving because a big team leaves. It’s the toughest conference to compete in but time and money can be spent without worrying about winding up in the sunbelt conference or some crap like that.
No one else wanted to add us either so jumping on the offer was a no brainer, no shame in that.

Big10 offered junior membership money for a certain number of years (Nebraska took junior money).
Mizzou picked the SEC full money option.

Why Mizzou turned down the B1G when the conference would not accept equal pay. There were articles about this way back then. SEC would agree on equal sharing of revenue.

It’s a true dilemma for some.
A. Mizzou isn’t valuable, therefore the B10 weren’t interested and the SEC got bamboozled.
B. The SEC was shrewd and undercut the B10’s junior offer for Mizzou and stole 2 major markets and a school on the rise.

Guess that makes me an academia lib type. Didn’t know that.
Glad we didn’t take a Nebraska style deal to not get paid shite for a decade or more though.
We’ll see how that works out for Washington and Oregon but at least Oregon has sports money flowing in.

You are not wrong.
Nebraska didn't get full share of media revenue until year seven
