The only womens sports I might consider would be cheerleading and pageants.
UK's cheerleading would bump us up the list by quite a few.

But thank you for your selective analysis.

All these posts trying to convince people that anyone except the participants and their parents give a shite about any college sport besides football, basketball, and baseball are humorous.
If there were some sort of weighting scale that measured importance, interest, money, etc of college sports it would be something like this:
Football - 50%
Basketball - 30%
Baseball - 19%
Everything else - 1%
For some schools the top three could be shuffled to some extent.

This is true. The only thing they're really good at is football

And yet, Kentucky's Womens Teams Ranked In:
Vollyball
Soccer
Basketball
Gymnastics
And we did just get NCAA National Runner Up in Rifle.
So, this program success indsex is shite due to title 9 forces programs to shift funding.

Well this thread already looks to be discredited enough without me piling on.
But you know you mad when you go and make a spreadsheet about every schools Bass Fishing program.

I am not reading this entire thread but Baseball America poll should be used for baseball rankings

So we suck arse according to you...but at the same time we're the only team that is ranked in both of the Men's Revenue sports. Interesting

Well you said ALL sports is why I mentioned it. I just seems like a weird collection.

This is the funniest part.

Who knew track and f'n field carries more weight in program success than football and basketball combined?!?!

Agreed. Let's come up with a weighted scale. We'll come to a consensus and I'll recalculate accordingly, and it'll trump Sagarin in all ways.

Disagree. Let's start the conversation on how to weight the sports by respective importance. continued on next post.

My suggestion would be:
Football - 55%
Basketball - 35%
Baseball - 9%
Other - 1%
This is still being overly favorable to college baseball, but it is the SEC. I didn't use any kind of scientific approach to come up with this other than gut feel.

Ok, I admit there are some flaws. I did say in the OP that it was a simple formula of taking the SEC sponsored sports and bass fishing to get an even 10 and assigning points based on final rankings, and finishing place in championship meets.
First thing is to determine the criteria. A couple things will not be in question. 1) Men's sports only. To paraphrase Coach Gundy "This is Division 1 Sports!", if you want to be PC do it in the Ivy league or Europe. 2) Only conference sponsored/recognized sports. Sorry air rifle fans, maybe if the sport shot live rounds and hollow points it'd be cooler. I am surprised the NCAA doesn't recognize archery though. 3) Must play D1 football to be in the conversation for the forthcoming national index rankings.
OK, so then we need to set parameters on the elements of the weighting criteria. What is most important? Participation throughout the American population, spectator sport and attendance, revenue producing vs non revenue producing. Then there are admin elements such as coaching longevity and turnover, APR, NCAA probation, investigations, and arrests and scandals. There are business and financial considerations too such as profitability, fundraising, licensing revenue and merch sales, game attendance, etc.
Last but not least on the field performance, should there be a bonus for winning conference and national championships? Pro draft pick bonuses? Blowout penalty? Award winner bonus? Top 10 in team stats bonus and a Bottom 10 penalty?
I think we should identify what is important in the elements of the weighting criteria then we can start to separate the sports by relevance to the index.
And go.

I think we can identify the favorite team of the OP when we see that track is given THREE different categories. Hmmmm... intredasting

Oh, and Bama is the only school in the SEC that ranks top 3 in the conference in overall wins in all 3 major sports: football, basketball, and baseball.
But yeah, we're so overrated.

probably because there is indoor outdoor and cross country. all three award a national championship every year and keep separate rankings.
