The thing is some Auburn fans believe they will enter Alabama/Ohio State status where you can hire a douchebag and once he starts winning, everything will be forgiven but that is not the case

Alabama/Ohio State have a history that the media will always fap too. However, despite being a Top 15 program, Auburn does not have this type of respect and a Petrino hire would solidify the perception of the desperate little brother trying keep up by any means possible

Yeah, just the normal secondary violations and the occasional B&E, DWI, or Possession by one of his players.

He has Mark Richt level control of his players, but I don't think he actually gives a shite. As far as I know, Louisville and UPig never had the NCAA constantly sniffing around while he was there.

Both have ADs who stay on top of things and do not turn the blind eye like "other" schools...

And we will still be a better fanbase and university than UAT.

Must chap your arse to know no matter how often you win on the field, your fanbase will always be bottom feeders and the university will be nothing remarkable with subpar academics.

i don't see it is a desperate hire. It would simply be hiring the best out there and taking a chance on him. If he truly wants to change his stripes, then sign him to a couple year contract and let him turn the program around, get rid of the NCAA from our door and then hire another proven guy to take us to the top.

^^This^^ Auburn is still going to hire him though. They are going to play the whole christian and forgiveness card. In their eyes hiring him is the christian thing to do because they will be giving him another chance. He still won't field a half decent defense nor will he be loyal. I can see him bolting after 3 seasons of decent success. Probably head out to the PAC 12 because it will be a little easier to win

If he's the best available coach that will come to Auburn, give him the job. We aren't hiring a Sunday school teacher. We're hiring someone to win football games.

what SEC program has been on probation most of the last 20 years and which has a perfect NCAA record the past 20 years?

You have got to be the most delusional aubren homer to grace this board.

Do you really think auburn is the pure virtuous program you postulate constantly on this board?

If any school needs a "home run" hire, it's Auburn. They have fallen so far behind Bama it's not even funny, and in order to make a sudden move in the right direction to get competitive, it might need to be Petrino.
