You're point was that 1M gets you a better lifestyle in SC than it does in TX? Go read your post again

i understand that but I think with NS's skill sets he would be a CEO of a fortune 500 company making 20-25 mil per year with yearly bonuses added to that. I am not speaking as a homer but there are people out there trying to duplicate the process in their business world.

Had he started that way, certainly. But his skill-set includes an intensive knowledge of football and how he wants it ordered. He's too old to become a business manager and learn all the ins and outs of that. The motivational speaker idea mentioned earlier in the thread would make much more sense, and probably be nearly as lucrative.

He didn't say which one was better, just that they weren't the same.

In any event, a lot more millionaires in Texas than South Carolina, so you can choose between either hobnobbing with your "equals" or being the belle of the ball.

NS made his fame as a coach but he could give it up today and make more being a motivation speaker, through endorsements, and doing work for ESPN.

In another lifetime he'd make a hell of a CEO

Okay, what's pathetic about $2.35M? He's a first year coach. Once he's winning, he'll get the raises. If not, he's gone.

It's pathetic bc a team with multiple east titles since expansion doesn't care about football.

Look at schools that do care, they don't hire coaches that can be obtained with 2.3 million dollar salaries.
Then say "oh well, no one else wanted him but if he does well he gets paid more, does bad he gets fired. No big"

Top programs have to pay close to that to keep coordinators these days

For all the above reasons your odds of being an east power are not very good moving forward. If you are fine with that then I guess that's what is pathetic instead of his salary

I only think Sumlin and Smart are overpaid.

With no prior head coaching experience I don't think they should be paying Smart anything over 3 million.

How so?

Is it more than you personally believe their skills are worth? Or is it some moral issue?

They are being paid exactly what their services are worth to the universities.

No one forces them to spend big bucks on football. It's just an option if you want to be good at it and receive the benefits that come along with that. obviously alot of schools think those salaries are what it's worth it to be good at it.
If you don't spend it someone will.

how do you come to that conclusion. Some bring value to the school they coach for. Dr Whitt said that NS was a great value for the U. based on revenue and increased enrollment.

Maybe if we are talking about Austin, but College Station is a dump on the level of Starkville. And the coast of South Carolina is nice. My uncle who is richer than any coach on that list retired to an island on the South Carolina coast

How much did you spend on football this year?
How much did you personally (non taxes) spend on world peace, creating affordable health care, balancing our budget, and preventing rape?

That's why these coaches make so much, we pay to create the demand.

And btw these coaches salaries wouldn't be a drop in the bucket compared to the billions already being spent on these issues worldwide.
Billions in tax dollars these coaching salaries and college footballs impact on the economy contribute to far more than you do.

Cute post though

It's crazy to look at that list now and remember just 9 years ago Alabama took a raft of shite from everyone and everywhere when Saban was hired for $4 million a year.

Now you've got first time coaches making almost that and coaches who haven't won any hardware making more than that.

CFB coaches should be sending Coach Saban, Jimmy Sexton, (before he passed) Mal Moore, and the Alabama AD and BOT a Christmas card every year.

Lsuchs - I hear ya. Odom was not my first choice, but I don't have the money to be heard. Kind of a so-so hire at the time, IMHO.

I am impressed with his assistants and his recruiting efforts in the short time given. His first mistake was bringing Mauk back, but that was "fixed" real fast.

HC Odom is a "wait and see". If he fails...then you and I will agree...solid pathetic.

AD Rhoades who hired him is a strong leader.

Although Texas A&M is only 10th in SEC football money (lmao) we do have enough money to keep our Head Coach and also hire away coaches from our SECW rivals.

And oh yeah, build a new 102,500 seat football stadium.

Yeah, we poor!
