But I'd have Alabama, USC and Ole Miss above Texas for sure. All of them have wins against ranked teams.
Sagarin Top 30 Record - assuming a Georgia win over Texas
Georgia 4-2
Texas 4-1
Tennessee 3-1
Alabama 4-2
Ole Miss 3-2
S Carolina 4-3
"Ranked teams" is subjective based on humans voting in a poll. Sagarin, while still biased in the way it is coded, are at least consistent.
You will disagree. Understood. Both arguments can be true.

I don't see the point in this game if multiple teams from a conference can make playoffs. It's kind of like having a championship game for the AFC East?

It's just not a good ranking system, highlighted by the fact it has Alabama #5.
The 4 wins you mention:
18. A&M(8-4)
19. Florida(7-5)
20. Michigan(7-5)
28. Oklahoma(6-6)

I don't think it's perfect, but I think each team is about right within 5 spots up or down. That's pretty good imo.
Alabama hasn't been consistent, but they are absolutely a big problem if you have to play them. They are definitely Top 10 of the teams that would be tough to beat.. #5 would be about right on that list.

So you would prefer the committee decide who gets the bye as opposed to playing on the field?
In this case, there's one team with a 7-1 record, so it's pretty straightforward. If there was a tie, we have the tiebreakers already in place; ie Georgia wins the conference if they didn't lose to Ole Miss, because they won head-to-head over Texas.

Winner does get a bye so it means something.
Yet at the end of the day, you still play same total amount of games, with the same amount of time between games as a team who didn't go to a conference championship game...

Make it a16 team playoff. No championship games just award the championships to the best conference record. No byes. 1st round at higher seeds home stadium revenue will be there and fans will love it.
Rather have just 8 teams but they will never go back and you need the multiple of 4.

winner gets 24 days off with the 1st round bye (and claims an SEC Championship lol), loser plays in 2 weeks in the 1st round. don't really see how that's a waste of time
The loser who was good enough to make the game gets screwed. The teams not good enough to make it get rewarded.

I still value the conference championship. Maybe you don't. Not sure why.

Why top 30? Seems to be a reason why you'd like to extend it there and also cut it off there.
Top 25 is what they rank, so why not that?
Or a top ten as that seems to be a marker for the elite teams.
Or a top 15 as that seems about the line of demarcation for having a good argument for a tourney at large bid.
Top 30? Why? Think I know.

Because that is the way Sagarin ranks them on the chart..and it’s easier to look at everyone..
Texas is 3-1 in his Top 20..
so you would be wrong..

Troll harder.
But if you’re serious, this type of mentality is what is ruining the sport.

I totally agree, this game only benefits the opposing playoff teams for 2 reasons.
1. Other teams are hoping the two toughest teams in SEC will beat each others brains out.
2. If either or both teams lose “game difference maker players” by injury or penalties it’s obviously better for the opposing teams.

What is Texas in his top ten or top 15?

Def a money grab. Bama/Tenn the big winners.
UT/UGA - less rest, one more hard game, greater chance injuries.
Overall structure is stupid and greedy.
