SEC will soon go to 9 SEC games since schools are cutting budgets. AU and OM come to mind.

And attendance is down all over and if not it soon will be @ some point. And further they should only schedule P5 schools in the other 3 and or a major Indy like ND.

Many folks just frankly prefer to go to a huge sports bar with fair to excellent wings and burgers and ice cold beer and watch several SEC clashes on the big screen and chat up the locals. Inc my sorry arse. When AU, with their rabid base, starts whacking budget and they ain't on parole then that should get everyone's attention as I'm sure it has.

I'd rather stay home. I'm coaching almost every Saturday morning in football season and it's tough to even get to Auburn for a game.

I just received notification from UGA athletics that Murray State, Arkansas State, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Missouri ALL returned tickets back to UGA---unable to sell.

UGA's is now offering effective today a 5-game "mini plan" for $395 for tix to all 5 games.

I'm shocked that South Carolina didn't sell their full allotment of tickets...considering the rivalry and they're just 163 miles from Athens!

People just don't want to travel anymore despite the rabidness of the fan base.

It was in the news several days ago about AU and Ole Miss cutting their athletic budgets due to rising costs, etc. Some other schools around the country are doing the same.

Don't worry... there's more money coming soon...

Of those schools, Missouri is likely the only one that has a slight chance of upsetting UGA at home and they're a million miles away.

SC is odd because their fanbase is pretty loyal but they're also playing BAMA and Clemson. If I'm an SC fan and looking to go on a road trip this season I'm heading to Knoxville over Athens. It's 100 miles difference but they have a better chance to win. And with an October game, I'm making a small vacation/weekend of it and checking out the Smoky Mtns./PF/Gatlinburg.

So how exactly are schools hoping to increase revenue by getting 1 less home game a year?

This answer outta be good.

Thru my employer I got newly offered discounted tickets to the UT-South Carolina game and the UT-Miss State games. It appears those games are not sold out, or both schools returned tickets. I’m thinking about going to one. Which one would y’all pick.

Not disputing this fact, and I understand away tickets are sold months in advance for most traveling teams. But, when the outcome of the game is almost certain or irrelevant, your likely to find better, cheaper seats second hand. Not as many away fans traveling and home tickets easier to come by. This happened with the Canes and Noles last year. Canes blasted the Noles for returning tickets. But it was clear during the broadcast the Noles just scalped tickets from Canes fans. Point is it’s not just an away team fans issue.

Both should be decent/competitive games with good fan interaction. There's not a lot of hate between UT and either school (at least on our part) so I'd expect pretty good fan behavior at both games.

The game against State is on the 12th of October and may have slightly better weather though (it can get colder by the end of Oct.) so maybe go with that if you don't have a preference.

OM cut 8.5% and AU cut 10% across the board for all sports programs. That's pretty substantial (especially AU) OM has an excuse, they've been on probation and cut from the SEC bowl distribution.

This makes no sense.

Cutting budgets because people don't want to travel... so we will cancel a home game every other year (which forces people to travel).

Because of tight budgets, let's eliminate 7 televised games every season for the SEC (because no one is going to miss that revenue. Nobody likes accepting checks for TV revenue anyway)

Thanks Prof. I’ve never been to a game at Neyland and $40 for a SEC matchup is a good price. Only downside is they are end zone upper deck tickets.

Actually every other year they will get an extra home game against an SEC opponent. They can sell out their game pkg's at a premium and not have to cut them down to nothing and worse get nothing for unsold tickets. The television deals will be better. Aside from that many SEC schools can charge out the arse for giving other schools a game and do trade outs like 2 home games for one return. The SEC has the power. The BS Mercer type games are to get extra home games for recruiting purposes and qualify for 6 W's and a bowl where they lose money. It's all BS and dilutes the product.

Upper Decks at Neyland are STEEP so be prepared for that. The good thing is the steepness means you're closer to the field than most places when you're up high but walking up there can feel like you're gonna fall to your death. End zone seats can kinda suck but if you're facing the jumbotron you shouldn't miss anything. You should have a fairly good experience at either game.

You dont eliminate 7 TV games and get more revenue.

Just like you don't eliminate a home game every other year and expect more money (hotels, restaurants, parking, and 90,000 tickets).

I hope you aren't from the business school.
