I do agree that there are still a fair share of Cardinal and Braves fans in the area though. More so Cardinals in my opinion.
Yea, I'd say Cardinals edge the other two out, but no team has a stranglehold on the city IMO.

nah, no way is Florida accurate. Too much diversity, and no way do the Marlins dominate 90% of the state like that.

Yea, there are probably some parts I disagree with, but it's a pretty good overview.
It is a really cool map but I agree that it overstates the Marlins' range. I doubt the Marlins are in the Top 3 for fans in NW Florida, for example.

Arkansas is a Cardinal state.
NWA is Cardinals, Rangers and Royals.....I'm LRNWArky, so I get it.

louisiana is soooo historically related by FARM TEAMS, RADIO and the RAILROADS.
the cincinatti reds had spring training in alexandria (aces) as early as 1914!!!
LINK /
also the padres. duke snyder was aces manager for years.
i remember in the 40's and 50's listening to stations from st. louis, chicago, cincinatti and kansas city. baseball cards were big in the 40's and 50's when i was growing up.
it was also easy for quick weekends via the train to these ballparks.
then, the astros really played to south la. lots of radio coverage.

guess y'all are forgetting all the figs who became Red Sox "fans" in 2004. Lidz at the local mall couldn't keep Boston hats on the shelves.

My dad is from Crosett. He became a Cards fan back when their broadcasts were the only ones they got and he has stayed a Cards fan.
The Cards were the southern most MLB team for a very long time.
I am saddened by the fact no one is showing any love for my 2010 American League Champion Texas Rangers!
You nailed the entire reason the state of Arkansas is mostly Cardinals.
You have no idea how difficult it was back in the day to get into Missouri from Arkansas. The biggest reason the older generations cheered for the Cards is because it was the ONLY broadcast of MLB for decades in the State.
However, you can easily get to Kansas City, St. Louis, Dallas and Houston now so it seems a Mix of these teams will be the future of the state.
It's a very easy drive from Northern Mississippi and Western Tennessee directly up to St. Louis to watch the Cards.
Arkansas and Ole Miss is definitely the majority of Cards fans.

Agreed. Hell the Redbirds were a Cardinal affiliate for something like 15-16 years before the Brewers (1 year) then the Reds moved in.

I'm a Royals fan. It is a painful existence.
Royalsfan here as well. Growing up in NW Arkansas it seems like I saw zero Royals gear, now I see it all the time. Royals are definitely gaining some ground in the area.

Partly due to the Naturals, but also partly due to in-migration from MO and KS.

there aren't many braves fans at UF. i'd say there are more Yankees fans than braves. mostly Marlins and Rays fans though

Growing up I watched the Cubs almost every day in the summer. I remember chanting M-V-P at the TV when the Cubs finished last trying to help Andre Dawson win it. He did.
I also liked the Giants, since Shreveport had a AA farm team. In 1989 it crushed me the Cubs faced each other in the playoffs. But I knew I was true Cubs fan because I cried when they lost (i was 11)
I've always liked the Rangers as well. My first major league game to go to- if you could call that stadium major league. Saw rangers/red sox in '86- the year the red sox lost to the mets in the series. My favorite minor circuit teams to this day.

Growing up in Central Louisiana in the 70s and 80s, we were Astros fans. Those were the games we'd get to go watch during the summer. But, I wasn't overly fond of the Astros because I thought their uniforms and watching baseball games in the Astro Dome were both ugly.
Then, I found WGN and day games at Wrigley Field. Been a Cubs fan since then.

And i have been a METS fan my whole life, and we suck balls.

We have tons of Yankees and Red Sox fans in addition to the Braves.

LSu is split between Braves and Stros pretty evenly
true...and I'm not a fan of either one really...even when they are competitive....liked Bobby Cox, all the old Braves...David Justice, John Smoltz, Terry Pendelton, Sid Bream (the most famous of em all)...but since Cox retired...not a huge fan
Never really liked the Stros all that much...even when they got to the WS...
Tried to be a Cubs fan when all the old Tigers were there..plus saw em coming up on WGN....it seemed hip in these parts to be a Cub fan for a while....and I usually don't like to follow the trend
My grandfather had me watching the Cardinals growing up...watched every minute of the '87 WS with him....always left an impression on me
I pulled for Boston for a while b/c I'm one of those who believe that the NY Yankees are trying to ruin baseball as we know it...but the last decade, Boston is no different, so I got off that bandwagon
I also recently started pulling for LA b/c Joe Torre went on west to coach and I was thrilled I could pull for him cause I liked him personally a lot...but no way in hell I was pullin for the Yankees...was dissapointed he left, but I dig on Donny Baseball (even though he was a stinkin Yankee)...so I'll cheer quietly
