Points allowed is the only stat that matters defensively.

Yes but GA is the only team to play any offense with a pulse. Make that two teams with a pulse

quote:Sort of. If your offense hands the other team the ball and a short field, ppg can be misleading. Samford scored 21, but two of their drives were 50 yards or less, and were aided by penalties. (this is just an example; same principle applies when evaluating any defense)
What about points per game? That's the stat that really matters.

A little misleading stat for LSU. 7 points were scored by TCU on their kickoff return for TD. They also had a 5 yard TD run after LSU fumbled near their goal line.
Factor this in and LSU is giving up only 15 points per game.

After only 2 weeks, these stats are pointless.

Maybe pointless when making an overall judgment on a team for the rest of the season, but certainly not completely pointless.

Pointless when people are bragging/dogging a team and some teams played 2 top 5 opponents and some teams played FCS opponents. Lets talk in late November.
