The bunt is the stupidest fricking play in all of sports.
They only work ~50% of the time and when they do work you still give up an out.

IMO depends on the offense and where you're at in the lineup. If your 8 hole guy is up there and you need to advance runners but you know that son of a bitch is going to hit an infield blooper at best than it's worth it IMO.

Stats generally show in a situation where it's harder to score runs it's not a bad strategy when you have no outs and a runner on 1st. Especially if the batter is likely just going to pop up for the out anyway.
It's the overuse of the strategy that's the issue IMO.

It's a stupid strategy in the terms of doing it in the middle of the game when you would want more than one run. However, when you only want one run, it makes sense. Your chances of scoring one run are greater with a runner on 2nd with 1 out than on first with none
You just have a greater total number of expected runs in the inning with a runner on 1st with no outs than you are with a runner on 2nd with one out
So to make a long post short, yes bunting is stupid 99% of the time. But when you need one run and you have the bottom of your lineup it makes sense
