A&M got kind of exposed towards the end with a "weak" SEC schedule. still good chance half of SEC is in OKC.

Maybe a dumb question, but even how deep the SEC is in softball, Georgia will make the NCAA Tournament anyway right? Or am I wrong on this? It's crazy that they won't even make the SEC Tournament, yet be in the NCAA field. This conference is tough.

I think the conference has gotten stronger in SB in recent years. More teams are better.

Still must play through the conference tournaments, but as long as no major upsets add teams, UGA should be in.

For the first 3 decades (1982 - 2011) NCAA softball really could be viewed as the PAC Invitational. In 2012 Alabama broke the glass ceiling and the SEC got its first softball NCAA.

Since 2011
2012 Alabama (and LSU and Tennessee made the WCWS)
2013 Oklahoma (Tennessee and Florida made the WCWS)
2014 Florida (Alabama and Kentucky made WCWS)
2015 Florida Auburn, LSU, Alabama, and Tennessee made WCWS)
2016 Oklahoma (Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama made WCWS)

Considering Vanderbilt does not have a team and both Texas A&M (in SWC and B12), Missouri (Big 8 and B12), South Carolina (IND and METRO) went to the WCWS before joining the SEC, these are the only current SEC schools to not have made a WCWS:

Arkansas
Ole Miss
MS State

1997 = South Carolina, first SEC school to make a WCWS
2000 = Alabama, second SEC school to make a WCWS
2001 = Louisiana State. third SEC school to make a WCWS
2005 = Tennessee, fourth SEC school to make a WCWS
2008 = Florida, fifth SEC school to make a WCWS
2009 = Georgia, sixth SEC school to make a WCWS
2014 = Kentucky, seventh SEC school to make a WCWS
2015 = Auburn, eighth SEC school to make a WCWS

Current SEC schools previous CWS appearances
Texas A&M (1983, 1984,1986, 1987, 1988 / SWC) + (2007, 2009, 2012 B12)
Missouri (1983, 1991, 1994 / B 8) + (2009, 2010, 2011 / B12)
South Carolina (1983 / IND) + (1989 / METRO)

The SEC didn't participate in softball until 1997. Then it took a while to catch up.

From Wiki:

The tournament has been held since 1997, when the SEC began sponsoring softball.

Easy to see why the PAC had great teams. Three of the best players on LSU's team are from California. Makes one wonder what other SEC schools have players from the PAC's footprint.

LSU:
Sahvanna Jaquish - Highland, Calif. (Redlands East Valley HS)
Amanda Doyle - (freshman) Santa Clarita, Calif. (Canyon HS)
Allie Walljasper - Manteca, Calif. (Sierra HS)

A&M:
Miranda Miles - Elk Grove, Calif. / Elk Grove

Ark:
Parker Pocklington - Centralia, Wash. / Centralia
Autumn Storms - Temecula, Calif. / Great Oak HS
Betina Beringhele - Culver City, Calif. / Golden West College
Ashley Diaz - South El Monte, Calif. / South El Monte
Nicole Schroeder - orba Linda, Calif. / Esperanza HS
Aly Manzo - Roseville, Calif. / Roseville

Ole Miss:
Gabby Alvarez - Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King, Jr.
Bry Castro - Yorba Linda, Calif.//McNeese State
Alyssa Gonzalez - Chino, Calif./Chino
Grayce Majam - Pine Valley, Calif./Mountain Empire
Dakota Matiko - Corona, Calif.//McNeese State
Dylinn Stancil - Temecula, Calif./Great Oak
Allison Stark - Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King, Jr.

Miss State:
Sarai Niu - San Diego, CA / Cathedral Catholic HS

Auburn:
Carlee Wallace - Alpine, Calif. (Valhalla) - ***cool name for HS
Tannon Snow - Chino Hills, Calif. (Chino Hills)
Kaylee Carlson - Garden Grove, Calif. (Pacifica)
Makayla Martin - San Diego, Calif. (Scripps Ranch)

Alabama:
GABBY CALLAWAY - SAN DIEGO, CALIF. POWAY HS
ALEXIS OSORIO - RIVERSIDE, CALIF. KING HS

These are the players from the PAC-12's area that are on the SEC West teams. Looked at Florida's roster and they have 6 players from California.

That's a lot of players. I'm sure there are more players from the West coast playing softball in the SEC than any other sport.

If LSU's California players weren't on the team they would lose their best pitcher in Walljasper

Sahvanna Jaquish - has started over 240 games for LSU - earning All-America honors in each of the last three seasons and will be going for a fourth - lifetime batting average over .330, Jaquish this season shattered the career RBI mark and has 251 and counting

Amanda Doyle - has started 45 of 47 games as a true freshman.

LSU would not be as good as they are without the three players above but if they had stayed out West those team(s) would be a heck of a lot stronger.

We used to be a majority of California players IIRC, but now the talent is there locally as well. We still recruit Cali, but not as heavy. Walton really recruits nationally.

That said, 5 out of the 6 girls from Cali start, and Delanie Gourley is the 6th and she is our 2nd pitcher and really good.

Even better, pretty sure Taters have never sent a team to the WCWS

Poor posters in Taterland will have to find a rock to rub.

The SEC is stacked. I really hope they don't make Alabama the 16th seed. I want no part of them in Super Regionals.

Could be, CoMo Tigers are 3 outs from elimination and need 4 just to get even.
