That '98 Alabama-LSU game is a mind blower. You watch my highlights on my YouTube channel and you get the sense that LSU is clearly the better team. Alabama was down 16-7 with just over 2 minutes to play in the game and won 22-16.

Gawd we weren't good either, and we were awful for almost that entire game.
Then all of a sudden we score on that sliding catch by Shaun, get the onside kick and score on the tipped pass to Quincy Jackson. That was a classic example of a streak just refusing to end (the Alabama streak in Baton Rouge).
However, we used all our magic on that one because it came to an end on the next trip in 2000. Even magic couldn't save that abomination of a football team.

Nope. That team was no better than the 4-7 '97 squad, the '98 squad was just lucky enough to get fortunate bounces. Case in point...the '98 LSU game. Combined, Alabama was outscored by its competition in 1998 despite finishing the season 7-5. Generally speaking you don't get outscored for the season unless you have a losing record. Mike DuBose managed to prove that law wrong. Because in most of our five losses we were blown right out of the water:
@ Arkansas 6-42
vs. Florida 10-16
@ Tennessee 18-35
vs. Mississippi State 14-26
vs. Virginia Tech 7-38
We also had a four point win over BYU, a three point OT win over Ole Miss, a one point win over Eastern Carolina, and that six point win that should have been a loss over LSU.
