I might prefer a pod of
LSU A&M Ole Miss State
Bama Auburn Akransas Mizzou
Florida Georgia Vandy Kentucky
USC Tennessee NC State VT (maybe switch Kentucky with Tennessee)

It would be better for the viewers, but worse for the SEC. All the conferences would be treated evenly, even though some of them are complete garbage.

Perhaps, but in that type of system I would propose you'd do something like

- 9 conference games
- 3 OOC games (maybe even determined via prior year strengths by team or league like the NFL does)
- Championship game for league
- 8 team playoff (5 conference winners and 3 at large)

And if the SEC won most of those OOC games they'd be in line to grab 1-2 of those wild card spots plus the champ.

I mean yes this makes sense but frick you this isn't the offseason.

True, but it's a nice change of pace from the same shite getting posted over and over again.

I wouldn't mind a sticky for this so we can revisit it whenever we feel like it. It makes for some interesting discussion.

IF NC state and Virginia Tech wanted to be in the sec they would be in the sec so they don't want to be in the SEC. Is it offseason?

This was a novel concept and theoretically possible.

But not having ole miss face LSU every year would not work.

That and pairing both ms schools and both Alabama schools would be a joke.

take four of the top teams in the current hardest decision and limit their mobility in ranks and playoff consideration by having them force to play each other yearly. Where most of the other schools will get to avoid them.

This just ends up with each pod being all over the place geographically. I tried to create cohesion in the pods by making them as contiguous as possible and trying not to split them up.

Just in terms of making the most sense regionally

Northern Pod
- Arkansas
- Missouri
- Kentucky
- Vanderbilt

Eastern Pod
- NC State
- Virginia Tech
- Tennessee
- South Carolina

Coastal Pod
- Florida
- Georgia
- Auburn
- Alabama

Western Pod
- LSU
- Ole Miss
- MSU
- Texas A&M

However, some of those pods would be terrible and some would be stupid good. But all those schools are close enough and culturally pretty close for the most part.

You could probably switch State and Arkansas in that pod. I just don't want to lose playing those Ole Miss bitches every year. And ole miss and state could make each other their permanent rivals.

But LSU is Ole Miss's "real" rival.

Do you really think the amazing LSU/Ole Miss rivalry would be the reason this couldn't happen?

I agree that it would be an unbalanced pod this year, but I tried to take a long-term view when creating them. Just because it would be stacked this year doesn't mean that historically they wouldn't have been pretty even. And trying to always keep them even is impossible -- look at SEC East vs. SEC West and how the balance has changed in the past 10 years.

I agree that yours would be way better geographically and culturally, but the strengths would be way off. That's why I tried to tier the schools and create an "objective" way to balance the strengths. But I'm with you that if strength isn't a concern, those are better pods.

It's not really that far off geographically, however if your in the conference there shouldn't be a problem with teams traveling anywhere over the south.

I actually wouldn't mind pod groups that put the big rivals in different pods but kept them as permanent rivals. That way for the mini sec playoffs for the championship, you could get a matchup of UGA and Florida or Auburn vs Alabama or LSU vs A&M.

14 is already too many. Adding teams only hurts the fans and players. By all accounts if you are a big TV guy or a conference goob who stands to profit by all means advocate for 16 teams

You wouldn't be saying that if LSU beat Bama.

I think it's good for football. Gives us a legit playoff system.
Think the overall playoff system should be 6 teams life a nfl division.
5 winners of each conference get an automatic bid. Top 2 get byes. The 6th team in is an at large. Would probably be highly controversial but I think could make for a great postseason. The anticipation they would get to announce the one last team, they could probably make an hour long segment on ESPN for it and make millions.
