A lot of ignorance here. This team is most assuradly better than last year. We would not have won the MSU or the Clemson game last year, defensively we were not good at all in the second half due to the no depth. Offensively we are struggling at the point of attack but we are improving. This team will get better as the weeks go on.

The defense is not a top ten but it is still better than last years and at present trend will finish ~35th which is what I was expecting this season.

You assume teams haven't tried to go after Cam, they have and haven't got it done. This is partly due to talent and partly due to how hard it is to contain him. LSU game is the one I'm looking forward to seeing, Chavis should set his DEs to contain Cam as best they can and send their linebackers after him the entire night. The weakness of this is you open the middle passing game and if you don't get to Cam in time or miss him Auburn's band will be playing a lot that night.

Why is Gus a snakeoil salesman? You do realize we ran the up tempo last night and were trying to get faster in the 3rd when we had them on the ropes, Gus wasn't happy with the pace at all. I'll say this again, and this is backed up by nearly every major coach in college football, TOP is the most overrated stat from a football game.

This Auburn team may be better than last years, but they have certainly not proved it.

The defense looks better, but gives up a lot of touchdowns for an SEC contending defense.

A team is yet to really sellout to stop Cam and make someone else get the tough yards or force Cam to make tough decisions.

To Auburn's credit it seems Chizik is finally asserting himself over the snake oil salesmen Gus. The truth is the quick tempo offense and quick scoring offense does as much to wear out your own D as your opponents and forces them into playing unnecessary snaps. Keeping the D off the field this season in the early going is most likely going to payoff during their next stretch of games.

I totally agree. In addition to 1st team at HB and QB, he should be a 1st team OL because he makes blocks for himself.

63 pass attempts, misleading

I did not realize this. So Auburn is averaging a little over 15 pass attempts per game......wow that is low. Whatever works is fine though.

I don't think Malzahn trusts Cam enough yet to be throwing the ball all over the place. I have been surprised that we are throwing the ball so seldom.

the thing is, the training wheels haven't completely been taken off of the offense yet. Malzahn definitely isn't fully confident in Cam's ability to read defenses quickly and know where every play is going so that definitely limits the passing game the most.

Doesn't exactly sound like a Heisman contender then.

He's a great player, no doubt, but I'm not sold on him just yet. The erratic play against MSU and Clemson done it in for me.

But next year, I think he will be the player he was supposed to be this year.

People keep forgetting it's his 4th start in college. He played a little bit at Fla and he played a year in juco, but neither of those will prepare you to start a big time college football game against defenses like Miss St, Clempson and S Car. I'm not saying they're top 10 defenses, but still, he's learning and improving with every game.

Give it a Frickin break, OK? He is a good player, but jeez, just go suck him off and get it over with, will ya?

To even imply he is as good as Ingram right now is futile, until he plays against the meat of the SEC schedule. Even if he is still standing, much less putting up great numbers, AU has the easiest schedule vs the rest of the upper tier SEC west teams.

AU might beat LSU at home in a few weeks, but I am willing to bet it will not be because of Cam Newton. He is a great player no doubt, but a team with capable defensive lineman and backs that can place a very fast linebacker on him as a spy (such as Ryan Baker), will give AUs offense fits, IMHO. I think KiKi Mingo and Ryan Baker give Newton a long night, win or lose.

No we didnt. I was also at the game. We only hurried up inside the 30. We had 4 and 5 minute drives.

I agree with you that he is still learning and has exceeded expectations, but if the guy is only being allowed to throw the ball 15 times a game because the coaches do not trust his judgment (not my words...this is what Auburn posters are saying), then he is not Heisman material yet. Maybe by the end of the year he will be, but let's cool the Heisman talk until the Auburn coaches feel confident enough to actually let him be a QB. Heisman contenders should expand what your offense can do, not be a liability on it.

He is "allowed" to throw more than 15 passes a game. They are calling more than 15 pass plays a game. I would say that they are calling 5-10 more pass plays a game, but Cam is running it on those called pass plays...due to the pocket collapsing, Cam not finding an open receiver, and probably to some extent Cam feeling more comfortable running it than throwing it. Can some of you people actually watch an Auburn game before you comment on it?

I watched Miss St,Clemson and USC and part of Arky St. Cam throws it on average just over 15 times a game. Your offense is completely one dimensional right now. But hell, it is working so no need to worry about it at this point. I was just responding to the Auburn fans who said that the coaches were limiting the Auburn offense because they don't trust Cam yet. That is Auburn fans saying that.....not me.

If he was still there Florida would probably be the best team in the country. As it is, they aren't close. That said, good luck this weekend.
