I used the Sagarin Ratings instead of conference records since that eliminates some of the disparity between East and West and who played who. The ratings are of the rosters on opening day, so that only includes kids on the roster and their recruiting/transfer rankings. Pretty interesting.

247 Talent Rankings

Sagarin Rankings

- The two most underachieving teams (LSU and Florida) fired their coaches

- The other 2 "underachieving teams" had 1st year coaches, which generally tells you that while the rosters may have had "talent", it was either misevaluated or underdeveloped by the prior coaching regime.

- 10 of the 14 teams finished within 3 spots of their "talent" ranking. Coaching certainly matters, but only on the fringes. You have to recruit at a certain level to break through a certain level.

It’s surprising that 6-6 is the 6th best finish in the SEC.

Great data, which really well quantifies majority opinions of these coaches/programs throughout the past season.

I love these "look backs" at the end of the year.

Am I reading that right? That A&M outperformed their talent level. If true our talent level stinks.

Basically finished around where your talent level would expect you to finish. Of course, #5 in the SEC talent wise = #8 nationally = #3 SEC West.

It's a meatgrinder.

This is also a good example of why the real focus of where you finish in recruiting should be in comparison to the conference, not nationally.

You can finish in the top #25 nationally and barely crack the Top 10 in the SEC.

I guess I don’t understand the “finish”.

How did Mizzou finish 13th?

Ya that doesn't make any sense. When rankings are that poor, it takes away from the op.

Missouri is ranked #13 in the SEC in basically every metric available

Sagarin - #13 (#75)
FPI - #13 (#76)
SP+ - #13 (#70)
FEI - #13 (#75)
Massey Composite - #13 (#71)
Sharp CFB - #13 (#80)

Not sure where you think they are supposed to be but the universal ranking of Missouri is #13 in the SEC and somewhere in the #70s nationally.

Textbook recruiting under Richt. Finished 4-5 in recruiting every year despite top ten classes and finished 4-5 in the SEC most years.

There's no way this is correct, rival fans tell us every year we underachieve relative to our talent.
