They gave it to the right guy. SC was picked 6th and finish 11-7, one game better than the 10-8 that would have got them 6th.

A&M was picked 3/4 and won the conference.

USC was picked 7th not 6th, and finished 3rd, an improvement of 4 standing spots. TAMU was picked 3rd not 4th, and finished 1st, an improvement of only 2 standings spots. And USC beat TAMU on their home floor. Martin deserved it more than Kennedy....

I don't understand it, I was told by USCe fans that their school is a historical basketball school. Why would a 3rd place finish in a average conference warrant COY for a basketball school?

A&M is far from a basketball school, we are way overachieving. We hadn't won a conference title in 30 years, something like that easily warrants a COY award.

Glad to see people here giving love to Avery, even though we didn't deserve it with the collapse at the end. Though I'm not sure I want Avery winning coach of the year on his first season. Bad omen.

South Carolina isn't historically great at anything, but if they have a good basketball team their fans do give a shite. Not many fan bases can get into Rupp Arena in significant numbers since we sellout the games typically, but in my experience South Carolina typically has a few more fans than most of the rest. Unlike Auburn, Ole Miss, and Georgia who just flat out don't care if they are ever good at basketball, South Carolina fans at least want a winner even if they haven't always made the right moves to get there. Kind of reminds me of being a Kentucky football fan. The fan support is there.

So you took the time to go back and look but no link or quote. He probably meant we have the keys to being a good basketball team. Fan support is there in force when we're winning, good arena (even before CLA) and so forth.

Our problem is one state above us is North Carolina and Duke.

Haven't seen it mentioned but 4 of the 1st team are foreigners. Not that I have anything against foreigners but has that been a trend lately. Not sure how I feel about it, they're taking up spots(scholarships) that US citizens could have had. Thoughts?

Sure, foreign athletes are coming over in many sports, Tennis is huge one. All on scholarship. I don't like that trend. I'm not anti foreigner but think about it, they're getting free rides to mostly public Universities and their families have never contributed a cent to the state or country. Sure, American kids need to be better and take those spots. I don't like the trend.

Americans study abroad all of the time. And players, especially from Europe, having been coming here to play for some time now.

This is pretty dadgum accurate. I don't know what the program's ceiling is regarding the tournament under Martin, but I do know that so long as he's competitive, Carolina fans will sell out the CLA.

Well, my Diploma has The University of Alabama graduate 1994.

Why are you shocked?

I don't see why what I posted has y'alls crotches all sandy. I know it has been a trend for a while but there continues to be more and more foreigners on athletic scholarships. Is that a decay in American athletes or is it just the continued globalization of the USA.

I suppose it is a good thing that the best and brightest are immigrating to the USA. But for everyone that comes it is an opportunity lost for a natural born USA citizen. I never said keep them out, I just don't like the trend.
