D1 has no idea what to do with Vandy, Auburn, UGA, Arkansas in their poll. Those 4 are so close together and all could make good arguments for national seeds but someone is gong to get left out

Likely National Seeds (in some order) as of today.

Arkansas
Auburn
Georgia
LSU
Texas

All are ranked in the Top 8 of the ELO, RPI, BA, D1, PG & USA Today polls/rankings, with one exception. Georgia is #10 in the D1 poll.

Vanderbilt & Alabama look to be Regional Hosts, although one of them could jump up to a NS because of their RPI.

Florida & Tennessee on the bubble imo.

+++++++++++++

I think I will do the same analysis for the Top 20-30 teams next week instead of SEC only.

Thoughts? Same format?

ELO, RPI, BA, D1, PG, USA

I don't think adding the NCBWA will make a big difference, but I might add that one as well. It just comes out so late in the day and hasn't made a difference so far..

I’m throwing out D1 for all teams at this point. Everything they have done this season has been based on recency bias and that’s not how seeding is going to work (especially this year when there isn’t a clear cut #1 let alone top 5).

Of course I’m being petty, as well, because it feels like we got dinged excessively for a road series loss where Game 2 was played in a downpour for one half and didn’t start back up for 36 hours and Game 3 was a 1 run game shortened to 7 innings.

I think more than other years, RPI and SOS are going to reign supreme with everyone being so close together

Sully has done a masterful job of turning the season around at Florida. They were left for dead. Now they're a team to be avoided.

I’m just glad we aren’t playing yall to close out the season this year. We are sitting pretty in RPI in large part because we logged our sweeps vs yall and Auburn early. Y’all were the investment that has paid tremendous dividends down the stretch

I guess I'm curious what makes Georgia a national seed over Vanderbilt? They have the same conference record, yet Vanderbilt didn't get to play Missouri. And Vanderbilt swept Georgia.

So...why would Georgia be ahead of Vanderbilt?

Nevermind. I went ahead and did it for this week. I only included teams that were listed in all polls. 21 teams

NS and RH are my guesses on how they will try and match them up.

I think there is a pretty clear cut Top 7 right now.

The 8th team is likely Oregon, Oregon State or Vanderbilt. I think they will give the nod to Oregon if it is close.

Georgia also beat Arkansas (who swept Vandy) and swept Auburn (who beat Vandy). Vandy also avoided playing Texas.

Georgia has the #1 RPI, Vandy is at #3
Georgia is 40-13 overall, Vandy is 36-16

It’s incredibly close but that’s why Georgia would get the nod right now (we could absolutely frick around with A&M this weekend though and excuse ourselves from the national seed convo)

That's a fair question, and the committee may look at that H2H when making a decision..

As for my answer..

Georgia is in the Top 8 of the ELO, RPI, BA, PG & USA Today.
Vanderbilt is in the Top 8 of the RPI, but below Georgia.

Georgia is higher in every ranking/poll, except for D1. (10 vs 9)

Right or wrong, that's how I determined it, but I agree, it is close.

Looking at the change in rankings over the last month… I want the mouthy idiots in media to again repeat how bad the Lemonis firing was all the while I try to keep a straight face.

Normally I’d say this is absolutely something they would and should do. But with the way conference play has gone this year, this is going to be a really messy metric to use.

Auburn beat Vandy
Vandy swept UGA
UGA swept Auburn
Auburn swept LSU
LSU & UGA beat Arkansas
Arkansas swept Texas
Texas swept UGA
UGA swept Florida
Florida beat Texas
Etc, etc

I hate LSU being number 1 right now. And how the hell do the Hogs drop so much? Arkansas is loaded.

All I care about now is LSU getting a top 8 seed.

Unless South Carolina sweeps you and then you lose to Missouri in Hoover, I think you are safe.

I don't follow college baseball that closely - what would AU need to secure a national seed? Win tomorrow and win the series @ OM? Would that make the conference tournament most irrelevant for that question?

This is just my opinion on the top 8...

These SEC teams are vying for top 8:
LSU
Texas
Auburn
Arkansas
Georgia
Auburn
Vanderbilt

More safe I'd say are LSU, Texas, Arkansas

Depending how this weekend goes will tell a lot. The final 2 SEC teams will come down to Georgia/Auburn/Vanderbilt

Then you have these:
Florida St
North Carolina
Oregon
Oregon St
Coastal Carolina
UC Irvine

I think the SEC gets 5 and the other 3 from above. If the SEC gets 6, the national media will go insane saying how SEC gets preferred treatment and no one else has a shot to make it from other conferences.

A committee makes the decisions, so nothing is ever certain, but I feel like the national seeds usually are pretty easy to predict.. after those are figured out, all bets are off down the line.

As of now, I feel like Auburn is in a good position to get a NS, and that should hold true as long as they don't swept this weekend. 1-2 extra losses shouldn't have that big of impact at this point.

Take Texas for example.. we've lost 2 series in a row and 5 of the last 6 games, but our metrics and resume are probably still good enough to get a Top 4 seed, possibly #1. I'd rather not have the #1 though.

The polls are very different than seeding because the polls have a lot of recency bias built in..
