because Martin of Arkansas had better numbers than Keenan. What doesn't make a whole lot of sense is that the SEC press release shows no SS on the all-freshman team. I assume that was an oversight? Or was Hal Hughes the only freshman starting at SS in the league and was too terrible to justify having a SS on the team?
edited to add more since it was random
SEC games only
player avg 2b 3b hr rbi slg% SO OBP
martin .333 4 0 3 11 .444 29 .406
keenan .326 8 0 6 24 .600 24 .416

That's nice, but both teams played 26 other games that weren't SEC games. Arkansas also had a much more difficult schedule than Ole Miss. Ole Miss has the 13th ranked overall SOS in the SEC (26th nationally) and the 14th OOC SOS (192nd nationally) whereas Arkansas had the #3 SOS nationally and #54 OOC SOS nationally. And it's not like Martin's production completely fell off in SEC games either. Ole Miss fans have been pumping this kid for weeks for FOY with this same argument. They were the only people pushing for Keenan to be FOY. I get it, we're all homers to a fault, but there were several freshmen with more impressive numbers than Keenan. That doesn't make him a bad player. The SEC, quite frankly, just had a ton of freshmen studs this year

Tyler Keenan not making the freshman team..... That's a damn shame. Not winning FOY, I get. But damn, kid should have made the SEC freshman team. Martin committed three times as many errors as Keenan.

fielding % is probably the last thing voters care about. That's why they have an all-defense team.

Martin's overall stats are boosted big time by non conference - Keenan made his hey vs the SECs best

#2 team in the league and top ten in the nation in Fielding pct and we don't have a single guy even make the defensive team? gtfo

I hope the Mets draft India

Possibly, but it should factor into it, being that is half of the game and this isn't just an offensive team (or, shouldn't be anyways).

But you didn't play Florida while we had to play @ Florida, @ Georgia and @ Ole Miss

If Arkansas had a poor OOC schedule, then that may be more relevant, but they didn't.
Keenan went:
2/15 against USC with 1 RBI
2/10 against UGA with 4 RBIs
2/7 against Vandy with 1 HR and 2 RBIs
5/10 against Arkansas with 4 RBIs.
Those are the "best" teams he played.

Keenan was the best all around freshman in this league. That said, my biggest issue is that he didn’t get the all defensive nod over India. He only had two errors in 30 league games.

So dig into Martin's stats a little...14 RBIs in 3 games Vs Bucknell, Dayton, and Kent State...they one those 3 ganes like 60-7

are ground balls more difficult to catch and throws harder to make in SEC games? I don't know why y'all keep going back to league only stats. Florida, like Arkansas, had a very difficult OOC schedule. They had the #1 overall SOS and the #17 OOC SOS. When 26 of your 56 total games are against non-SEC opponents and not comprised of teams like Ole Miss played OOC this year, then that argument does not hold as much weight as you'd like it to. India is probably going to win the golden spikes award. He made 6 errors all season and had 146 fielding opportunities this year to Keenan's 93. Their overall fielding% difference was fairly negligible given the sample size. (You give Keenan one more error and his fielding % drops from .969 to .957). Fielding % is also not the sole indicator of how good you are in the field. Not having the range to get to a ball, for instance, won't show up in the box score as an error. Conversely, making a difficult stop that most couldn't get to but making a poor throw does show up as an error when missing the ball entirely wouldn't have.

Didn't notice at first, but thanks you made my point for me...11rbis against our 4 toughest opponents, same as Martin had all year Vs the SEC

O'Sullivan winning COY over Stricklin is questionable considering the preseason expectations for both teams.
Totally agree and I would even have to say Strictlin is more deserving that Kingston ... although, look above, Kingston had no players make either team so that makes what Kingston has done this year all the more impressive IMHO.
Why Sully got it this year is a bit of a head scratcher unless it was because of the SEC series winning streak he had going for awhile?
I dunno.
Tanner dominated the conference for years and, hell ... there were years when we won the National Championship or played in Omaha where he didn't win. Hell, he only won 3 times the entire time he was here coaching.
This Sully worship baffles me a bit.

and a .262 BA, about 60 points lower than his overall SEC BA. 4 of those RBIs came in one game against Arkansas. By and large, Keenan struggled against the best teams he played this year
