If we wanna be technical, Darrell Royal was the best coach we ever had.

But not when he was at State or because of anything he did there.

Mullen was the best head football coach AT Mississippi State in y'alls history.
There, is it worded better for you?

Idk why its so hard for y'all to admit Mullen is y'alls GOAT

I'll definitely give you that argument. But he was only there for two seasons so it's hard to see what his impact is on MSU in that short time. I'd argue Allyn McKeen if we're going WAY back.

Normal CFball fandom reaction whenever a good coach ditches them. We downplayed Tubs when he left as well.

Took quite a few years for the butt paste to sooth our sore asses over it and realized he was a damned good coach for us considering we only had 55 scholarships.

Is this not synonymous with me saying he is our most successful coach of all time in my last post? He left for what most anyone would consider a better job at this stage in time.

However, that doesn't mean Moorhead wont be/isn't a good coach.

You're legitimately the first MSU fan to say that on this board. I realize that this board doesn't represent the entire MSU fan base, though.

I don't think you're being honest with yourself if you say otherwise - the program has been consistent and reached some of it's highest highs during his tenure.

Now with that said, you'd have to agree that no coach in MSU history has ever had the table set for him quite like Moorhead does. He inherits a 9 win team that returns every key contributor except Dez Harris (I think his knowledge will be missed) and the in state class of 2019 has nearly 30 SEC prospects. Combine that with snagging some out of state four stars early in the process (which Mullen didn't do very often, if ever) and you can understand why State fans have a lot of optimism.

Lots of drivel posted in this line. But.... realistically State has a chance to go to Atlanta. They would probably be ranked about 4th in the SEC pre season behind Alabama, Georgia, Auburn. And of those teams they are returning the most completed “team.”

Alabama will have an entirely new secondary.

Auburn should have an excellent defense but offensively they are questionable at OL and RB.

Georgia is going to be rebuilding both sides of line.

MS returns a strong group of players both O and D. Their experience and balance should favor them against the rest of the SEC... and only against Alabama would they be clear dogs preseason and that mostly because of Alabama history.

You people denigrating the potential of MS haven’t been paying attention, or are caught up in history. The result? You could find your team down 30 something to single digit like LSU last year, while you gape and drool like a cow looking at a new gate. Moooooooooo

Yeah, you're right. I guess I don't really know how I would react in that situation since Auburn isn't a stepping stone school.

Last time a head football coach left Auburn that wasn't fired or retired was in WW2 to join yhe Navy. You might have to go back to John Heisman in the 1890's to find the last coach that left Auburn to take the same job at another school.

They played their best game of the season last year against LSU. If they could replicate their execution during that game for an entire season they could have a big year. However, I'm not buying it. MSU plays their best ball when underdogs. Look what happened to them at Georgia the following week when they started to believe they had something.

I was told in one of the threads today that Jackie was the greatest. Was he incorrect in saying a guy that went 75-75 at MSU as being the best?

Sherrill was not the best, as Dan was better overall. Neither are the best in program history. Allyn McKeen was our best all time coach at 65-19-3.
