He's perfect for LSU. He's basically basketball Les Miles.

Why?

It wouldn't surprise me. He probably wants to get the hell out of there before the football issues at Baylor spills over into basketball.

And a basketball Les Miles would keep his job at 13 of 14 SEC schools, so it'd work well.

Would love to have him here but Alleva looked shaky when asked how much he was willing to spend on the new coach. For whatever reason I don't think the athletic department is willing to go all in on the basketball program. My money is on Kermit Davis

Guys like Davis are a coin flip. He's definitely a solid basketball coach, but so many of those mid major guys come in and can't figure it out.
Pelphrey, Heath, Grant, Jones, Felton, Lebo, Barbee, Horn, etc

Holy frick. I obviously don't keep up with bball salaries, but I can't believe Cal makes that much more than the no. 2 guy. That's more than Saban.

Would LSU have more money to spend on a basketball coach if Alleva hadn't given Coach O $1M more a year than he needed to? Or would that create a "basketball coach makes more than football coach" scenario?

Money is not a issue TAF has the money it's a matter of how much they are willing to spend on a sport that doesn't make a ton of money. In the 2016 season after expenses the basketball program had a net profit of 1.9 million. That included 3 million in salary for Jones and his assistants so if you pay a new coach much more then you are going to operate the basketball program at a loss.

If LSU was winning even close to Baylors level though, you'd probably make a frick ton more than 2016 revenues

Just seems like short sided thinking as other SEC programs are ramping up on basketball spending. If LSU screws up this hire they will stay behind the 8-ball, attendance will stay low, revenues will stay low, etc.
Seems like it makes more sense to find the right guy you believe it, pay him what needs to be done and eat a bit out of the football/TV overflow revenues and then see ticket gate increase 10 fold with winning teams.

Lsu sold a shite ton of basketball season tickets for the 2016 season due to Ben Simmons and still only profited 1.9. I doubt they profited near that much this year. I just honestly don't think they will spend a ton of money on a new coach

Possibly but lsu sold a ton of season tickets because of Ben Simmons and still only profited 1.9.

I think the entire Baylor athletic department situation is a nightmare right now. Everything you say or do is scrutinized at an incredible level, you get asked about it nonstop, it is probably a weight around your neck in recruiting. I wouldn't be surprised if he made a jump.
something crazy to think about
Look at how all of us look at Baylor athletics.
then remember that the Mizzou AD took a look at Baylor and said "yup, that looks like a better situation." and bailed out of CoMo

Yea but this notion makes too much god damned sense to rub off on the village idiots currently running our athletic department into the fricking ground.

Except Scott Drew wasn't at Baylor when that happened. He took over the mess.
