The entire time I'm reading that I'm thinking man I hope this is true and not some early form of copypasta. Then it ends w/the picture of the triumphant Leach holding the net over his head.

Filipino blue-checkered shirt wearing museum attendant is not amused: confirmed.
What a legend

Incorporating your rival into an in memoriam thread that has absolutely nothing to do with said rival is peak little man's syndrome.
That’s the most common thing you’ll find when you encounter longhorn fans in the world, their conversation inevitably will drift towards Texas Aggies.
When A&M joined the SEC they flocked here to “tell you all about those Texas Aggies”

Man . . . I had not seen this story in well over a decade.
A&M fans love Leach like everyone else. He frustrated the hell out of us but you had to respect the man's accomplishments.
He was also very kind in most of his comments.
His comment of "sometimes a pirate beats a soldier" is one of the best.

That is a great story.
What strikes me the most is that he remembered walking by the pole/net. Shows how much awareness/ attention to detail he had. Most of us would not have even paid attention to that pole as we walked by it earlier.
I'm more amazed with the man with every story that is told about him.

That's great. I thought it was all made up until the picture at the end. What a fantastic story.
I totally thought it was made up too
I think a lot of people would think it was fake so ending it with that pic makes it a pretty legendary little story

Great story.
Glad I did not have to spend 12 hours on Reddit to find it.
Thanks.

I had a friend that met him in Key West. They ended up going to grab pizza and a beer.
I think I know the time frame… had a family of relatives that had a chat with him there within the last couple of years…….

Bumping this because this is one of the best stories supported by a pic that is the epitome of Mike leach.

I only hope somebody gets this photo to the family. It would bring them back a great memory of their great dad.
