"3rd and Chavis" has become "3rd and Traw just blew your QB up"

They don't have anything on AE. My posts just get deleted on VolNation. AE banned me before I even posted.

I recognize that name...I lurk on VN sometimes just to get the mood of the Vol fans. That dude seemed to have some decent posts and somewhat knowledgeable, but that stalking history and those photos of him. :yechhh:
Thanks for the ruination of yet another Vol fan!

Yeah I am a casual VN lurker and I always thought Sab seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders. Did not know about this side of him.

I'd like to point out that he's drinking a Bud Ice Light. Seeing one of those is like finding a heterosexual unicorn that enjoys watching Sex in the City with its girlfriend.

I'm happy to see Chavis succeed.. with that said, he had become complacent here like Phil. It was good for both sides.

Sab is a pretty good guy...he just takes recruiting really, really...really serious.

most coaches should. especially when you're getting paid millions a year and recruiting is one of the most important aspects of the game.

Que?
Monte's 2009 UT D on the left Chavis's 2008 UT D on the right
total defense - #25 vs #8
run defense - #60 vs #26
pass defense - #13 vs #7
pass eff def - #17 vs #23
scoring def - #31 vs #18
And USC hasn't had a good year since Monte took over. He may well be asked by his son to retire after this year.
There was good comparison here between Monte and Chavis when UGA was pursuing The Chief for DC.

Facebook/Twitter recruiting creepers are some of the weirdest motherfrickers on the internet.

I wish we had gotten him. Bud Foster and Ellis Johnson would have been awesome too

1. How did it compare to Chavis' 2007 defense?
2. The depth was so bad in 2009 Eric Berry was basically playing linebacker.
That being said, I think Chavis is a good defensive coordinator who simply annoyed me with his 3rd down defense at times.

1. Huge sample size you're using here.

The lack of overall talent on that '09 defense was fkn disgusting.

Chavis
IDK about 2007 UT D, but I do know about the 2009 LSU D, when we improved the scoring D by allowing more than eight points less per game with a lot of the same faces. That's unheard of for a defense transitioning to a new DC.
The defense has improved every year under Chavis at LSU. This year figures to be even better.
As far as Monte at USC, that's literally all I had to work with. The USC defense has gotten worse each year than the year before, including the year before the Kiffens took over.

Which may make you think it was about a little more than Monte. They were awful the year before and still lost a lot.

I was never that impressed with Monte. He held UF to "only" 23 or so points in '09 and that was the best that defense played...and that was mostly Eric Berry doing work. Oh, and holding Bama to 12 points.
Maybe he wasn't so bad...

USC has actually recruited well under Kiffen, and I hear that Carroll guy wasn't too shabby in that regard either. You'd think there would be improvement.
I've blocked them out of my memory
Mallory and Peveto were co-coordinators on defense.
