Of course it’s not about the money once you’ve made as much as he has.

in all fairness he said pretty much the same thing when he came to LSU in 99

quote:

"Security is always something that's important to you and to your family," Saban said. "But it's not the reason I came here.I like college football because when I talked to my team today, the effect that you have on some of the players, their lives, means something. I liked the challenge of this football program," Saban said. "I think there is great tradition. I think the Southeastern Conference is a very competitive, outstanding football conference. There's a challenge to being part of that conference that kind of intrigued me."Saban said he had two previous offers to leave Michigan State--from the New York Giants and the Indianapolis Colts.

I can't remember the details, but IIRC, Georgia used to have a law (or policy) that the FB coach could not be paid more than the university president. That went away in the late 70s/early 80s when the big TV money started rolling in to CFB.

I wish it was about money...so, we could get in a bidding war.

He is underpaid...by a lot.

His value to Bama is huge.

He has his own scholarship fund, remember? It awards scholarships for needy girls who run track and happen to have blue chip 5-star football player boyfriends.

When you are a multi millionaire many times over, and you make multi millions, it quits being about the money a long time back, and becomes more about the competition.

It's because you lowered your admissions standards while the other universities raised theirs.

That explains the increase in the average ACT score and number of National Merit finalists the last few years.

Someone in the Alabama administration had the vision that Saban could transform the program. That was probably based on what he achieved at LSU.

I thought they were crazy for offering as much money as they did. But, it took that much to get him to take a job he knew would be crazy. It paid off and changed the salary scale of coaches all across college football.

The guy has earned my respect.

We should all strive to emulate such greatness.

Pure BS.

Why doesn't he ask to be paid a lot less and have the school use the other money elsewhere?

Or just donate the excess to the Bama scholarship fund? $5M a year would provide a free ride for many a deserving young lad or lass.

You have no idea what that man does with his money.

He has a scholarship fund. He gives hundreds of thousands to charity and has provided millions to Nick's Kids. Nick & Terry are very generous in their giving back to the local community, the University and their church.

If it was about the money, he would be coaching at Texas. I think it is a combination of factors

Yea it's never been about the money, Saban just loves to see innocent people cry and suffer at the hands of the thugs he creates. Saban lives on their tears and the stains he leaves in the record books with his criminal empire.

He's in the perfect situation.

When he said he's never asked for anything, that's a lie.

He came in with a long list of needs and necessities that he wanted for the football program.

He brought in an NFL mentality and wanted elaborate, expensive facility upgrades. He is still given anything he wants or thinks he needs for his program to consistently compete at the highest level in CFB.

There's no waiting and running plans through committees, getting shite caught up in bureaucratic red tape in the UA Administration when he makes a request, it is granted.

He may not ask for pay raises for himself.....but if he feels like he needs more "analysts" on his staff then fricking Wall Street then he gets it.

Somehow I doubt that you are married. You do realize that his wife probably spends alot of that money and on the side point his kids too. You think his wife would be happy with him doing that. Go get married man and see how much women complain about not having enough money. Then look your wife in the face and tell her I could be making millions but I turned it down.
