I can say that Alabama's DB's look like they are improperly coached on everything...technique, tackling, ball awareness, etc.

The talent is there, it will always be there with Saban, but if every guy isn't playing up to snuff, then there's something deeper at the root of the problem.

I will say there are flashes of potential with Eddie Jackson, though.

Well Saban is supposed to be a cornerbacks guru right? Who recruited those guys? Some of the blame lies at his feet one way or another because he's the overseer.

You'll start recruiting chavis type players in the secondary. You DEs might change a little to smaller faster type and probably no change to lbers except some May be a bit smaller and faster.

Actually saban is considered the best safeties coach in the country. There's always been several people with question marks about his ability to coach cornerbacks.

Well at least 14 of those points (plus another 7 as a result of an offensive turnover) were scored when the defense wasn't even on the field. How is that Saban/Smart's fault with regards to defense?

No kidding. The game was on the offense more than anything. Giving up too many sacks and costly turnovers. Defense can't do everything.

LSU had a shot at Bama and lost by 21. I can't laugh at any team that beat my team. I think it makes you look dumb.

A shame more LSU fans don't realize this.Still, pretty funny that they don't.

Those two games changed 35 years of success as a defensive coach?

How Good did AU's Offense look against LSU ??

LSU outrushed AU, Hill had better numbers than Mason.

Yeah, the last two games negates how many top finishes for the defense?

Please tell me you're not a statistician.

Lets slow down a bit. Auburn had a special teams touchdown. Oklahoma had one and a short field once or twice.

I agree. It has been covered up by having an insanely talented secondary.

Correct answer.

The problem this year was the secondary was average at best with the safeties being very good and the corners bad to really, really bad.

Not really a way to mask that weakness when you aren't getting a pass rush.

why are auburn fans so obsessed?

You serious Clark?

Auburn could win the next 10 consecutive national titles and they'd be obsessed with each and every Bama loss. They'd still have boosters stalking Bama players and recruits and taking pictures of them at gas stations and in the mall.

No, the inability of the nose guard to eat up two blocks killed us. With a Mount Cody in the middle, the LB's are free to tackle or blitz.

It is a surprising stat for sure. Give AU and OU some credit because Alabama did play well defensively for most of the season.

Yep. Saban's gonna have to change his philosophy which he has formulated and codified over many years of coaching and has ingrained in his coaches and players. But in just the last 5 years offenses have increased in sophistication to where you have to approach them with a different mindset. It's no longer about beating your man but anticipating where he's going to be. Requires an aggressive approach and quick, heady players. Some of these route trees I see now didn't exist 10 years ago. But you definitely can't have a bunch of bruisers who were recruited as 3-4 DE's trying to rush a quick, mobile passer when you're in dime. You have to have true pass rushers and you can't afford to give up coverage by blitzing LB's and DB's every single play. That replay of a 300 pound DE trying to contain Trevor Knight running to the sideline when he threw that touchdown back across his body showed exactly why Saban's defenses have so much trouble against those offenses.

Could not have said it any better. Spot on.
