It is still more school oriented fan interest that drives CFB. Schools do need at least one or two exciting players that the fans can recognize as “our guy.” But that goes back to the beginning of CFB. I don’t know the names of many of UGA players from the 40s and 50s other than Fran Tarkenton, Frank Sinkwich or Charlie Trippi. People loved them because they played for UGA and they were exceptional. Fans like exceptional to be affiliated with their team. Dan Marino was exceptional for Pitt and Pitt fans revere him for that. No fans from all of the other schools give a rats arse about what he did there. I currently don’t even know who many of UGAs starters are on this years team. They come, they go and are pretty much forgotten about within 5 years with the exception of those who achieve true legend status. But the pride of fans is because that guy did it while playing for their school. It has always been more about the school and not about the players.

Ray Charles could see that

He usually is. Some folks will disagree out of spite though, for reasons we all understand.

I think a lot of us would rather get rid of the future nfl players entirely rather than stick on the current trajectory college football is on.
This has some merit to it. If the television availability for FCS teams was more abundant on a weekly basis and nationally instead of just FBS, people would watch it. Those players are more describing the traditional definition of student athlete now, since the FBS is mainly big names and future NFLers.

But here’s the thing: All these fans would rather win by recruiting some illiterate thug out of the ghetto in Los Angeles than lose with some local athlete who lives for State U.
You see, it’s not enough for fans to see players with pride in their school out there on the field giving it their all for ole State U. Those frickers have to win too. Not just high quality kids who are competitive - similar to the service academies - but winning big.
We have the system we have now because the fan expectation of winning is out of control. That’s the foundation of it all.

Catholics followed ND every Saturday on television.
Every kid in the Southeast and a majority of kids across the country grew up wanting to play for an SEC power program. You had Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia giving kids the likes of Manning, Walker, Jackson, Wuerffel, Tebow, and countless other phenoms that kids wanted to emulate.
We all knew that NIL would hurt the core of rivalry games, and kill true dedication from players to programs that we saw back then. Could you imagine Bo leaving AU for BAMA? It would have never happened back then, but today, people can literally buy your whole team.
NIL has all but ruined the game.

It t has definitely altered the game. There’s no denying that. But the ratings are through the roof, so apparently it hasn’t ruined it

How many college players were functionally illiterate when they were juniors in college majoring in recreation management and the rest.

But who has it “ruined it” for? Who is college football supposed to benefit? Is it the fans? Is it the coaches? Is it mass media?
No, it’s the students. Seems to me that getting big money and having the option to transfer to another college that may help your employment prospects is a good thing.
The fans don’t like it, but college football isn’t for the fans. If you don’t like it, cut off the fricking TV and let the money dry up and let it become like small college ball. But you can’t do that because you’re addicted.
We live in a world in which young adults are making millions in ways that were hardly imaginable 50 years ago. The college football players (who actually have real talent unlike a lot of influencers, etc.) shouldn’t be handcuffed because old farts want to jerk off over loyalty to a school.
The fans want freak athletes with the loyalty of Steve Rogers who want to study chemical engineering and live modestly while everyone around them profits from a multibillion dollar industry.
You can’t have it all anymore, people. Times change.

This is true, but most influencers have good looks, and pussy will always sell. It ain’t necessarily fair, but we all learned along time ago that life is not based on equality but advantages. I agree though, that most of those girls in the influencer videos most likely have limited education. So if they weren’t a pretty face and figure, they’d be do nothing stay at home soccer moms. Maybe some of them can cook? That would be a huge redeeming quality but I doubt that too.
