I'm exactly the same way about rustling Tennessee and Auburn jimmies.

I've rustled 10...should have been 20. I've failed.... but try and try again...

It really is amazing Saban has been in the running for the NC 6 out of 8 years at Bama.

07: First year, wasn't in the running.
08: A 4th qtr away from playing for it.
09: Won it.
10: Probably the most talented team, but wasn't in the running after the LSU game.
11: Won it
12: Won it
13: A second away from playing for it.
14: Made the playoffs

He Probably is right

He isn't saying that other teams didn't have the talent as well, just that he felt it was a failure on his part as the HC.

Winners think this way. I don't like him but respect the hell out of his abilities as a coach.

Saban is alpha to the max. That's why he couldn't hack it in the NFL.

What a miserable little man. I respect the hell out of him though.

He is right, but's also true to say that at least 3 of his 4 teams that did win it all were very fortunate to have done so. he could just as easily have zero as he could have 8.

10: Definitely not the most talented team, but wasn't in the running after the SC game.
11: Won it with a mulligan.
12: Won it
13: A second away from playing for it and then we lost to Oklahoma.
14: Made the playoffs and lost to Ohio State.

We've been saying this the past few years now. We have been so close. Saban wins another one before he retires.

We lost to SC that year first but we still could have got in if we won out. After the LSU loss it was over.

and let me guess

Gus qualifies in your mind as a good "in game" coach over the guy who's last season with less than 10 wins was in 2007?

Alabama finished 4th in the SEC-W that year and you're talking about how close you came to winning it all?

I'd say Gus is a better playcaller and more in tune with game management in 2015. Saban, IMO is still a few years behind on this (although he's getting there).

Where Saban blows everyone away is player development and organization/preparation. He beats you on the practice field before anyone even walks into the stadium on Saturday.

the guy who wrote the unauthorized biography of Saban was saying that even the Dolphin players who hated Saban would concede he made them a better player

I get that people don't see his footprint on a game as much as a Malzahn because he didn't bring anything new to the table like Urban or the Gus Bus but it's obvious as the head coach he's made adjustments
