Because the other two teams got the rest, you would have been left out. I know this is a hard topic for you. Do you guys count the losses as wins since you beat yourself?

Dude be logical. If Bama got in over a P5 conference champ when they didn't even win their division, why wouldn't they get in over the MWC champs after winning out and beating the number 2 team in the nation? I'm sure Bama would have received a good bit of 1st place votes if they had won out.

okay then why exactly did this happen....

You got in because your only loss was to the only undefeated team, who was ranked #1, in overtime. There were also no other undefeated teams. logically speaking

This is all hypothetical because we lost 3 games that year.

But IF our only loss was to South Carolina on Oct 9, 2010, we won out and won the SEC Championship. Alabama would of played for the NC that year and got in over TCU.

Alabama would have beaten 6 ranked team, including the #2 team at the time Auburn, and their only lost would of been to a top 20 team in the regular season.

TCU would have beaten 2 ranked teams.

TCU didn't play in a conference championship game.

Alabama would have played in a conference championship game. And, hypothetical of course, would have played and beat the team they lost to earlier in the year SC.

So a 1 loss SEC Champion, whose only lose was to a top 20 team, and who they beat when they played again. Verses a Mountain West team with 2 wins over ranked teams and no conference championship game.

Once again, If Alabama would have won out after the SC loss, they would of played for the National Championship.

I know this is hard for you to understand after getting left out, and rightfully so, in 04. But that's how it would of happen.

It's not all about talent and coaching. A lot of it is attitude and motivation.. It's very difficult to win back to back titles because of that, as Ohio State will find out this year. Bama won 3 of 4 national titles. They were bound to have a letdown. I expect they'll be hungry again this year.

This is so true...The true test is what a team does after they lose a game. Do they throw in the towel for the rest of the season, or do they regroup and kick arse the rest of the way?

hmm... still having difficulty I see

doesnt change the fact that all those ifs and you still would have been left out against the undefeated TCU.

Under that logic '06 undefeated Boise State would of got in over a 1-loss SEC champion Florida. And Boise State and Ohio State should of played that year.

Admit it, Alabama gets in.

I laid it out for you a couple post above. Sorry you cant follow it.

Even the thought of hypothetically Alabama getting into a NC game pisses you off.

Returning to the OP, while I don't dispute Saban's assessment that he should have won more NCs, given the talent at his disposal, the first part of his quote troubles me:
quote:

"People talk about we've won four national championships," Saban said, including the 2003 title he won at LSU.
Who exactly is "we"?

The only guy who was on his '03 staff that won the title is Lance Thompson, who helped him win the NC in 2012, but was elsewhere when Bama won in '09 and '11.

Since he's talking about two different schools, with entirely different teams and coaches, spread out over an 11-year period, why can't he just say "I won four national championships"? False modesty?

Make your case why TCU gets in over a 1-loss Alabama. I want to see how you justify that.

You can't gave a reason they get in because you know they wouldn't have. Obviously I'm the dumb one here so explain it to me.
