Very different playcalling from TCU/Sonny versus a Dan Mullen/Florida or Stoops/Kentucky where the opponent turtles in the 3rd quarter and refocused the offense to first downs at all costs (costs being to the gameclock and chance of getting a win).

It looks worse on paper. But you have to respect the message that Sonny is giving his players that they will not give up and concede in the 3rd quarter.

It's likely there'll be plenty more blowouts in the 12-team CFP.

There will be similar games to last night and similar games to the Peach and Fiesta Bowls. Alabama would have showed out in a 12 game platoff this season, in my opinion. More meaningful college football is a good thing in my opinion. I would prefer 10 games last night without UGA in them to one UGA vs Kent State game because for some period of time leading up to and even after the kickoff the outcome is in question.

If UGA had left their starting QB in the whole game and lobbed bombs into the end zone with under 2 minutes to play, then yeah that is running up the score.

But they didn't. They emptied the bench and the UGA second and third string were better than TCU. You can't put kids out on the field and then tell them not to play hard.

UGA could have scored again if they had wanted to and instead kneeled out the clock.

Is it not also a thing where the head coaches can agree to a 12 minute fourth quarter? Does the mercy rule apply in the CFP??? I am sure UGA would have agreed as would the officials if TCU had sought some relief. To their credit they did not and continued to try to score until near the end of the game. If UGA had their starters in and was running trick plays and lighting people up with cheap shots etc then yes they would be guilty of bad sportsmanship but TCU never hollered Uncle, again to their credit, and was attempting to score until their last possession. It happens. Had they ran between the tackles and punted on 4th down from halfway through the third to the end of the game UGA would have done the same....

Take one look at the Arkansas-Kansas box score. That is why you don't completely let off the gas. And all those backups get to talk about playing in, not watching, the national championship.

If I've ridden the pine all year I'm absolutely trying to catch my coaches attention when I get snap

Some of those kids are going to be starters next year and next year is right around the corner with spring camp.....TCU was unable to prevent plain vanilla plays on both sides of the balls...

Running up the score would've been Smart keeping the starters in and beating TCU 100-7. Because they could have.

Once upon a time my kids rec level soccer team ended up in a game against a club level team. It was a bloodbath, name your score type of game. At some point the coach of the other team told his boys, "No shots from inside the box", then "You have to pass the ball 5 times before you shoot", then "Everyone on the team has to touch the ball before you shoot." The score was still 20+ to 0, but he made his team better without intentionally just running up the score for the sake of running up the score. In a lot of ways, that a lesson we can all learn..

All that taught your kids team was that they sucked so bad that they were being used as practice fodder.
