They should just throw stats out and make all the awards a popularity contest.

That would be better than what we have now.

If he played college ball before 2000 they don't.

How the heck can I get a down vote for answering the OPs question with the official release of the Butkus Award Comittee? He asked for the criteria they based their decision on and I posted it. Geez Louise.

Agree, the LB from San Jose St that led the nation in tackles should win the Butkus. Right?

You are a simple mind. Advanced stats don't even have your guy as top 3 in the sec.

I provided a stat that was heavily in Smith's favor.

As stated in the release from the award panel, line backing skills is only a portion of the equation. I’m not saying Roquans LB skills are lesser than anyone, I’m just saying there are other attributes they look at.

ETA: Let’s not lose sight of the fact that some are projecting Roquan to be as high as the # 2 overall pick. Other experts than the award panel think he’s the best also.

Point over your head. I love Jones. Closest comparison to roquan. He owned the saints on Thursday.

False, he was just a 2-way player at a smaller high school

Just going by what 247 said. They had him listed at RB. I wasn't criticizing. Just thought his athleticism was amazing. RB at his size? Wow!

If that is the criteria then I don’t have no problem with it.. but to say all of the bs I’ve heard on here about impact plays and other nonsense I don’t get it.. What he has done this year according to the SEC says that he should of at least been a part of the discussion... Look I’m not trying to take ANYTHING away from Roquan Smith he’s from the SEC so I’ll ride with it but to say Devin White wasn’t a semifinals or finalists for what he did this year in the SEC is completely BS!

So that's true? Only 33 solo tackles? Yeah, I think we found the reason.

Most important criteria is that Roquan didn't lose to Troy.
