Best Tiger Ever. His personal story was also very human from hero to criminal to hero again. Everybody’s All

I was wondering who the third one was going to be ...
Billy Brewer
Mike Slive
Billy Cannon
:::::: sighhhhhh :::::::
Well, they all lived accomplished, interesting, fruitful lives, as Icons, in the greatest college sports conference in the history of the world.

Not only an LSU legend but an SEC icon.

He was my hero as a kid. My Daddy and I listened to them on the radio Saturday nights when they played in BR. ..RIP

Wow, he was at LSU practice a month ago. I thought he was doing pretty well. Damn. It's so sad that we are losing heros and legends. You don't have to be a LSU fan to respect and admire the man. It's a huge loss for the SEC but an even bigger loss for LSU. Prayers and respect to his family and friends.

Cannon's arguably the most important player in professional football history because he left for the pros the same year the AFL was created and was the first 6-figure salaried player ever, kind of the reason pro football players make the money they make currently through his market impact that time

DownSouthJukin, a serious question as I respect your respect for Dr. Cannon. Here at LSU we know all bout the run & how famous it became. But I have never heard the Reb's take on it. Considering that LSU was ranked #1 and the Rebs #3, it had to be beyond a heartbreaker as the Rebs, yards gained-wise, had out played LSU up until that point. As well, both teams were punting on first downs often, a testament to both defenses. I have never heard a/any quotes from Coach Vaught re that game. Again, not a flame, just curious as to Reb's perspective. Put that game on national tv today & it would be an al time great.

Sincere condolences to the L.S.U. Nation. Vaught accepted blame for the loss because of playing too conservative on a wet field. Most fans of other schools seem to forget these same two teams were rematched in the Sugar Bowl that season with Ole Miss winning 21-0. I second the motion this game should always be played on Halloween weekend, just as the SEC rescheduled Bama vs Tennessee for third weekend in October. That is one way to honor one of the SEC’s all-time great’s. P.S. Re: Punt return, I have learned to expect it as tradition. It get’s us fired up!

Great player - His son, Billy Jr., was a better overall athlete. God bless the family and friends.
