Lots of posters forget or are just plain ignorant of the fact that poor players...and yeah, that would include poor black players...all can get almost $5,000 a year in Pell grants. In 2011, 423 football players from 8 different SEC teams received $4,600 each.

$4,600 per player.

Do you really think they're spending their Pell grants on cars? You have to pass a credit check to finance a car and when you have zero income that becomes a bit difficult.

Say you do just that then you tack on insurance (required by law) and you're paying $350 bucks a month total (young men in sports cars are expensive). Not too many families outside of the upper middle class can afford to spend that much a month and not too many college football players come from upper middle class families (although a few do).

You're forgetting the fact that Uncle Sam is giving them $383 per month. They absolutely can afford it.

Never played in the NCAA. It's not against the law. This is an NCAA violation. Doesn't matter as Bama can do whatever they want as long as Saban's ex boss is over the NCAA.

I see kids with shite they can't afford all the time: cars, Iphones, gaming consoles. It's a non issue.

Again, that's not considered income in any true sense. Certainly not for financing anything. Now if they took the 5k pell grant and bought a good used car that would be one thing but no one's gonna finance a car based on a player getting a pell grant - a dealer couldn't even be sure the kid would be in school the next year.

You also don't get grants in monthly installments - lump sum. I'm sure as hell not banking on a kid, ANY college kid, spacing that out.

I so enjoy reading posts from fans of other teams that Alabama has dominated over the years. They just can't accept the fact that Alabama's program is superior, and they MUST come up with excuses (cheating, schedule tampering, Oline holding, control of SEC AND NCAA, etc.) to explain their failure to measure up to them consistently. It's really amusing, but pathetically embarrassing.

I feel the need to clear some things up. First of all, for everyone mentioning this car being leased, Im pretty sure it wasnt leased. To lease a car ends up being just as expensive as buying the car. Sure the note is about 50-100 bucks less but when you lease you are required to have max coverage insurance since the manufacturer is listed as the title holder. When we leased my wifes Maxima we were required to have 150/300/150 coverage. Secondly, your credit has to be better than normal in order to lease. No idea what the credit history of this kids family is, but its another factor. Lastly, they certainly arent leasing a car to someone under 21. Tack on the fact that itd be pretty damn stupid to lease a car when you are living on campus. Every damn dent or door ding is charged when you return the car. Not to mention is 10 cents per mile over your allowed mileage which starts at 12k/yr.

Why couldn't the player's parents lease a Charger for their son for 3 years at around $200 a month?

I'm just going to go ahead and stop you right here.

Dealerships are not going to give special leases to football players because it in fact does not help the dealer at all. These kids are not going around telling everyone they a great deal on a car at dealership X.

Dealers are in business to make money and they are making none of it by taking a bunch of huge hits on cars leased out to players.

A new base model Charger lease with ZERO down will cost you ~$325 a month. Now I'm sure some parents, uncles, cousins whoever might be able to buy this for their son playing football in college, but the very grand majority of parents do not buy or lease out a shiny new car to their kid going to college

Automobile Lease terms, like purchases, are negotiable. Also it is not uncommon for dealers to waive the overage on miles/door dings when turning in leased vehicle and lease or purchasing another vehicle.

We'll probably be seeing a picture of him in the backseat of one (a cop car) before too long, if the past holds true.
