Not easy to stop a QB who is built like a running back and can run that fast, especially the way he's thrown the ball lately

A Bammer coached said after the LSU game that if you think JD5 looks fast on tape or TV you have no idea what he looks like when your are standing on the sideline and he comes blazing by

yeah I see defenders react to both Milroe and Daniels the same way. They totally underestimate how fast they really are, take poor angles, and just watch the two blow right by them. Daniels is a bit shiftier in his movements which is crazy for someone as tall as he is, while Milroe can just shrug off defenders with his size and strength, but both of them can go from zero to 100 so quickly. It's very difficult to defend when they both can also throw the football.

Georgia will throw several different things at Jalen to slow him down.

First will be disguised coverages. He doesn't have a reputation as a fast "processor", so we will try to exploit that.

Disguised coverages means that we won't consistently show the same look (cover 2, Tampa 2). Every coverage scheme has soft spots and we would be making it too easy on the OC/QB to be predictable.

Jalen will have to read pressures as well. Double A blitzes and nickel blitzes have been big hitters for this defense the past 2 seasons.

You could tell vs Bammer when JD5 would take off and get close to the LOS most of the time that the LBs were fricked bc of bad angles

They will definitely take a page from the Auburn playbook and use a spy but that will only free up our WRs though.

That's probably a good calculated risk for Georgia to take since our secondary is the strength of the defense and play lots of man/ have great ball skills

They're never blizing 2 ILB in the A gaps in a 4-2, a NT is already in one of them. And they're not running the 3-3 vs Milroe except on 3rd on long

They'll have some exotic looks for sure and show new things they've likely been practicing for this matchup throughout the season after seeing Milroe's film early on, but I really don't see how a 4-2/3-3 defense can defend this Bama offense. To truly shut it down, you need to run a 4-3 with an elite MLB that's fast, coverage skills for tampa 2 while also being an elite tackler. Physical corners that can slow down routes and force WR's to the inside, a ball hawk FS, and elite run DE's that can contain the edge.

The problem for Georgia is they don't run a 4-3 defense, whereas Texas does, which is why they mostly shut down Bama despite lacking the MLB or elite corners

edit: or just run a bear front like the Eagles

What caught me off guard was how many times he was trying to pass while being past the LOS. Didn't he do it twice? One got called....I can't remember what happened the other time.

It may have been Milroe once and an Auburn QB once. Either way, it's rare to see it once in a game, and it happened twice in the Iron Bowl.

We run an odd stack 4 man front. MINT.
The NT isn't in the A gap.
He's in the Center's lap.

All of our alignments are dependent on what Bama is doing. 11 personnel? 12 personnel? 21 or 22 personnel?
You can't say we do this or won't do this defensively until you declare how the offense is lined up.

Traditionally, we are in a MINT defense with 5 DBs.
We have Smael Mondon and CJ Allen who are both athletic enough to do what you are asking at ILB. Smael is a senior. Allen is a true freshman.

UGA also has Malaki Starks at S. You could call him a more "experienced" Caleb Downs. He will player anywhere in the back 7 as needed. If there is a problem needing solving, he is it.
Javon Bullard and Tykee Smith are interchangeable which allows better opportunity to disguise coverages.
Kamaree Lassiter has been a shut down corner all year.

Both were called. Here is the thing about Milroe - he is fast but only in a straight line. He has no wiggle or lateral moves. He has trouble knowing/finding:

Line of scrimmage
first down marker

We've had at least 8 TD's called back this year mostly because Milroe can't make up his mind to run or pass and it causes other penalties (lineman down field, over line of scrimmage, holding, etc) the list is endless. There is some good with the bad obviously but he can make some real head scratching decisions at times.

There is no way this game is competitive if Milroe doesn't at least approach 100 on the ground.

Burton and Bond are both good, but they'll be lining up against folks who are as good or better, and the player on the field that can help them capitalize on the advantages they can create isn't the type to consistently hit tight windows and pick apart a D.

Milroe will absolutely need to use his legs so he can pull Starks and Bullard down towards the box and open up the over the top plays that will keep Bama competitive.

We play run to pass on the DL.
The goal is to get 3rd and long. And then we pressure.

I'm sorry that you are new to college football and the most basic elements of the game are like a foreign language to you.

If Ga doesn't put a spy on Milroe I'd be shocked. Teams that did shut his running down.

We wont be so basic as to do 1 thing.

We will spy.
We will flood a pass rush on one side to flush him out. I figured we would flush him left as he doesn't throw running left (it is a lot easier on the defense when you know he is a runner).
A different expert sees us flushing him right into a trap instead (easier to disguise pressure on the blind side). We will see.

It seems like the game moves too fast for him when he's making decisions and not just reacting. If he has to step out of his comfort zone against this D, we'll see him make even more mistakes that cost Bama.

The key to this being a game is Milroe staying on schedule and well within the offense.
