Believing members of his football staff weren't being compensated satisfactorily, Georgia coach Mark Richt unknowingly violated NCAA rules by paying them out of his own pocket. Richt's payments to several staffers were among a series of secondary NCAA violations uncovered by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a standard open records report released Tuesday.

He also paid a five-year longevity bonus of $15,337.50 due to tight ends coach Dave Johnson when he took a job at West Virginia in 2008 just short of his fifth anniversary coaching at UGA

Seriously can't get much more classier than that. Looks like paid around 50k of his own money all for reasons related towards uga being cheap.

sad that Richt had to pay his staff out of pocket when UGA makes more $$$/profits than just about everyone.

Sometimes I wonder if Richt had the personality of Nick Saban, but still had the same record, would he have been fired already?

Wonder if the IRS will show an interest in the income received from Coach Richt?

gift exclusion
It's not a gift when the person received it in exchange for doing their job.

Richt has been very successful at UGA, however that has not translated into NC's and with all the talent he has had you would have also expected at least one NC during his tenure.

He won the SEC east 5 times
has almost a 75% win percentage
has 2 sec titles
