I have noticed he does catch a lot of screen passes.

realistically, I'd say 12/24, but you're right, they work, and usually go for a first down or very close. Hanks is doing a beautiful job throwing the blocks on those.

He hasn't caught a vertical pass in a few quarters...

Yes, but 16 of his 20 receptions were good for first downs. If people give him a cushion, Bama throws him a screen.

Which a waste of part of his game. You can just as well throw him an out, slant, or a come back route with that cushion.

I'm not saying stop doing it, but have some variety...

Cause he runs like a full back or tightend when he gets the ball.

Which may bode well for him against the AU defense.

I wish we would throw the ball down the field a little more too. Julio, Maze, and Hanks all have the ability to get behind a secondary. Might as well give it a shot a few times a game at least. We might throw the ball more than 15-20 yards down the field once a game.

He's had the longest out of him, Maze, and Hanks over the last two games.

Maze Long for last two - 18 and 13
Hanks Long for last two - 14 and 14
Jones Long for last two - 19 and 15

Of course, he probably did more of it on his feet than in the air. But who cares if he is getting the yards.

Exactly!

Julio can box out most DBs, Maze can out run most, and Hanks is as surehanded as they come.

I guess they are just playing to GMac's strengths, but damn, even Chad Pennington could still throw a forward pass even after all the surgeries...

Not now, but eventually someone will plan for it and shut it down. Then we all will care.

We are avg 464 yards per game, through 5 games. I'm sorry, but some of us need to lower some expectations. I like our offense just fine.

As long as we get a first down 66% of the time they throw the ball at Julio (16 in 24 passes thrown to him), I feel pretty good about the way things are.

Then we will go up top. God guys, never heard of take what the defense gives you.

By trying to press him at the line. I think that's what they want to force.

I mean, every skill player that gets a lot of PT right now (Julio, Maze, Hanks, Ingram, and TR) can take a short pass and turn it into a long gain. That is probably what they are basing the offense off of. McElroy doesn't have a cannon by any means, but he doesn't throw a bad deep ball either. He has decent touch throwing it down the field. If there is single coverage on the outside what does it hurt to give it a go? I just think if we can set the safeties on their heels it would open up the short stuff and the running game even more.

Yes, and there is usually more options than a bubble screen...

It almost resembles a West Coast Offense, using short passes to open up the run and longer passes, but they haven't used the long game.

I'm not saying completely stop what they are doing and change it, but it would be nice to have the QB scan the field more instead of checking off to safety valves.

I'd like to see this as well.
