Players talk to schools all the time and consider transferring. Any given coach is going to do their due diligence and follow up to see if that player could benefit his team. It's often just a thing a player is going through and their fanbase never hears about it because there isn't a follow through (doesn't mean they didn't talk just that they didn't go through with it). With the transfer portal and the sanctions Mizzou has we're going to hear about guys who are thinking about it more and more (in general --not specific to Mizzou but to the topic in general -- some will go through with it and some will stay). We had an LB who had announced his transfer after the coaching change but who ultimately talked to the coaches and decided to stay.
If we talked to anyone at Mizzou, I'd assume it would be a DL (though I wouldn't mind another RB we don't really need one). I know Mizzou is interested in Drew Richmond (our OL in the transfer) which is presumably a team need for Mizzou.

Oddly enough, given that the one freshman accused of such a thing did indeed transfer immediately, I'm not sure you're wrong.

Speaking of hammered, didn't Missouri beat Tennessee by a score of 50-17 each of the last 2 years?

I don't think this is entirely accurate either. Gabe said they don't have to ask for permission, but are required by the NCAA to let us know they're reaching out to players...so they don't need permission but must notify. And like you said, no, the Mizzou players don't need to reach out first.
